Will a universal barrel mount work on the STG 556?  I have my light mounted on the the side rail, but I think I want to run a light with a thumb switch and not a pressure pad.  Any thoughts other than they're ugly?

I took a class once with a guy who used a barrel mounted light on his AUG.  So yes, they'll work.

Surefire used to do one, last time I looked though it was no longer on their web site.  Some may be in stock somewhere though...

I experimented w/tapeswitches but eventually decided I wanted thumb-activated. Ended using the MSAR 9" accessory rail so I don't have to mess w/a bbl mount.

I don't know what sort of quality these are, but I found them while leafing through SGN...

I don't know anything about their quality but Amazon has many cheap barrel mounts listed on this link:

Random thoughts....

I want to mount my light on the left side, I normally shoot my rifle with the hand grip in the folded position and even when it's down I don't wrap my thumb around it.

I scored a Surefire universal barrel mount, but have some issues.

If I mount it around the "threaded" portion between the gas regulator and end of barrel fluting, the light mount/clamp can interfere with moving the gas regulator cap.
I could mount it forward of the "threaded" area and over the fluting, but I'll have to cut the bolts down and it's a little to far forward to activate with the thumb.  It'll work, but it's not ideal.

Otherwise, I could mount the base with a hose clamp or zip ties....any thoughts?
