Maybe this has been discussed and, if it has, I apologize. I'm not a paid subscriber so I can't search beyond 30 days.
Has there been any chatter about MSAR coming out with a dedicated .22LR version of the E4? With the availability of .22LR mags from Black Dog, Smith adn Wesson, etc. it might be a neat option. I'd buy one. Anybody else with me on this? |

Is TPD still producing rifles? I tried to call them last week but got a disconnected message. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=43&t=296340 Owner claims they are fine. I have no reason to doubt him. |

I'd love to see a .22LR conversion kit as well. This would be okay but I think I'd rather see a dedicated .22LR version. It could be almost all plastic like the S&W M&P-15 to keep costs down. I don't think there would really be a need for QD barrels, etc. |

I would rather have the Aug clone and 22 conversion so that I could still be using the same rifle. |

If a drop-in conversion could be made to run reliably that would be a fine option. I guess my expectations are jaded from all the various (unreliable) M16 conversions that have come and gone over the years. Have you popped over to the rimfire and pistol caliber AR forum lately? As long as I feed my Spikes Conversion the right ammo it runs like a dream. It only seems to like Federal Bulk Pack, thanks God Walmart started to get it in again in decent numbers. I've stored up over 4000 rounds since my drought. :) |

I've tried everything I can find from old Russian greasy black match ammo to high velocity Stingers and Mini Mags. No problems with any of it! |

A good .22lr conversion would be even easier with the Stg E4 version than it is with the AR. The question is whether or not there is enough interest to justify the costs. I've seen two kinds of conversions for the AR. The best is a dedicated upper since .22LR needs a different twist and a tighter barrel to get its best accuracy. Plus it avoids leading up your 5.56mm barrel. The 2nd option is a conversion bolt & chamber that uses your standard barrel. Obviously, its cheaper, but not as good in my opinion.
With the Stg E4 variant, you could get a cheaper barrel and just swap them out, plus a conversion bolt and use the Blackdog .22LR AR mags. It might be something for someone like Spikes to look into since their bolt might be modifiable without a huge amount of re-design. |
