Hi guys,

Hoping someone here can help me out.  I picked up a new A3 a couple weeks ago, and had a problem w/ both the mags that came with it.  Damn things wouldn't feed.  I contacted Steyr and they are supposed to be sending me out replacements.  In the meantime, I picked up a few pre-ban AUG magazines.  They feed well, but the bolt does not lock back after the last round is fired.  This was the case on all 3 NOS magazines I purchased.  Is this something specific to the old AUG magazines, or is it a problem w/ the rifle?  If it's a rifle problem, any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks!

1. It's a known problem with new US-made AUG mags which come with A3. Ask Steyr to replace them with pre-ban Austrian-made mags, and you'll be fine.

2. Never had a problem with bolt not locking back on empty pre-ban 30rnd mag on A3. What kind of ammo are you using?

1) - Already contacted Steyr about the original mags (see original post). The mags I'm currently using _are_ pre-ban Austrian made.

2) I've used 55gr Winchester, 62gr Prvi Partizan and 55gr Wolf. –– But the bolt doesn't lock back with an _empty_ mag.  It isn't just when firing the last round from a magazine that it fails to lock back;  If you insert an empty magazine (making sure it clicks and locks in), and fully pull back the charging handle, it doesn't lock back.

Thanks

If you have taken your hammer pack out did you push on the top of the bolt release when you replaced it ? Look on page 38 of your manual.

Thats what I was thinking, are you able to lock the bolt back manually using the bolt release lever? If the bolt release doesn't budge then it's because of the above.

I actually was able to lock the bolt back manually -  It just wouldn't lock back with an empty magazine.  I think I pushed the bolt release before the hammer pack was actually seated, rather than seating it and then pushing the bolt release.  All works now though.
