As a previous owner of the earlier models, I got in an A3 AUG from Pete. Going through all my various optics I chose a TROY setup and am looking at using the Aimpoint at the tactical red dot.

(Have to find a solution to the mounting issues so as not to remove all the skin from my fingers pulling back the charging handle and hitting the Aimpoint QD mount - may just reverse the mount but may also need the riser for better clearance).

Using two laser sighting tools - on in the barrel and trying another in the breach, I found the lasers pointed low at 30 yards where on the AR15 it was dead on at 50 yards. I have to do some more measurements still, adjust the front sight down on the TROY, remeasure my targeting tree in the back yard, etc. It just seems to me that the dimensions for POA of the AR15 and AUG are different enough to be challenging.

I like the TROY sights, and have looked at the MAGPUL sights but and not 100% sold on them - like the low profile, don't like the need to have to insert the steel pin to lock in the front sight so it does not turn by itself.  Still  a bit old school liking the A2 rear elevation and windage of the AR15.

May go back to the ARMS rear and YHM folding front sight if I can remember which rifle I have them on. Tried the ACOG - way nice but that is on another rifle - gee - guns are almost as costly as a wife and kids!

Anyone else have any ideas?

(Still got to work on the stiff charging handle)

on the issue  of thumb chewing from QD mounts, many people, as you've said, have just turned the mount around

This. My earlier model STG has the new lower & longer E4 optics rail so w/the Aimpoint CompM4 I just reversed the mount so the QD knob is on the right instead of the left. The Magpul MBUS don't get in the way at all.

I agree. I'm a metal BUIS man. Not sold on the polymer yet, although I must admit I like the "karate chop" deployment feature.

The charging handle you're just going to have to use awhile and it does get nicer. AUGs have just always been like that and not necessarily a bad thing.

Well switched out the BUIS and went with the YHM up front and ARMS in back. Lasered at a large tree out back and was dead on. Will keep it like this for now. Maybe put an AAC Blackout on it also. I sort of miss the higher A2 sight angle - now that the arthritis is in the neck.
