Anyone put several thousand rounds through one without problems? Are the original AUG's less problem pron? Would a used AUG
be more dependable than a new STG? The thought of spending 2g's + with accessories and fighting with the gun is making me hesitate.

I have now over 1000 rounds through my STG 556 without a FTF or FTE, I now use it as my patrol carbine at work on  a daily basis. I love the thing and soon I will get a second STG.

If you're talking original Steyrs from Austria, they are going for 4k+. All new guns require a break-in period where parts wear in a bit. The only way you get a sure shooter is if you buy used and the owner had already worked out all the kinks. FWIW, the new AUG A3 made in the US apparently have extra stiff charging handles. Some people have modified it so it's easier to work. It sounds like you should wait for these rifles to mature a little more.

My local arms dealer has 6 new 556's 1900.00 to 2200.00. He also has a dozen used AUG's from 2700.00 to 8900.00. The few new 556's on gun broker
I emaiedl about were low serial #'s. Do not want to be in the early part of MSAR's learning curve with a 1500.00 buy. Would a used AUG be a better way to go? One of the new local 556's is serial # 7099. What version is that # , IV or E4 ?

Thanks to all this is very helpful.

The newer, the better.  The E4 is supposed to take the AR mags, but has some fugly texturizing on the stock. Go for the Gen IV.
