I'm interested in light options for my STG-556.

I have a 6" rail on the right side... and have a Streamlight TLR1 left over from my patrol days.  It works great operating the toggle with my trigger finger when indexed... but the AUG-style weapon system is by no means thin to begin with and the added width leaves me wondering what other options are out there.

What are people using?

Pictures?

I'm experimenting w/the Fenix TK11 (switchable 60/240 lumen output). This pic shows it w/the tapeswitch but w/the offset mount I'm using the trigger finger is in the perfect position to press the std clicky switch w/the tapeswitch removed. I previously used the TLR-1 w/tapeswitch (not a bad setup) but wanted more throw w/o breaking the bank. The 240 lumen TK11 doubles the effective range of the 80 lumen TLR-1 I was using. I would like to have the light more in-line w/the bore but right now the 12" step-down optics rail seems the most practical solution (at least until someone comes up w/something to add more rails...)

I may buy the UTG weaponlight system. It comes with a flashlight body and a body with built in rail mount + pressure switch end cap. Most people hate UTG here but i can get it to my door for about $60. 110 lumens.  I checked one out at a gun show, pretty well made. I can't see paying $200-300 dollars for a surefire system. But then again i am not LE or anything, so i just basically need something for hands free nighttime yard sweeps if i hear somebody messing around out there.

But it seems for that rifle you may need an offset like in the other guys post.

Why not use what you already have? Yeah, it might be bulky...but is it bulky enough to interfere with anything you need the weapon to do? Or just fitting in a case?

What will the purpose of the light be? What do you use the rifle for?

Generally speaking... the light probably should stay at work.  Though I'm not working patrol anymore, it's still nice to have around if needed.

The rifle on the other hand is honestly a plinker-fun gun which is going to stay at home.  It's a great size for home defense (god fobid!)... but I've really got other options for that (I'm a big proponent of the 870).

I guess I just like to look at each of my firearms as a "system" or "package" independant of one another.  I like the ability to have each one able to do a little bit of everything if requred.  Not sure if that makes sence, but it's a lazy Sunday and I havn't had me usual espresso intake just yet.

Right now I'm using a Streamlight TLR-2, but I'm waiting on the upcoming release of the Insight WX150.  The WX150 is going to crank out 150 lumens for 125 minutes with a strobe effect option included as well as the constant on and momentary on.  Whereas even the new Streamlight with C4 technology only cranks out 135 lumens for 125 minutes with no strobe effect option.

Same size and weight, which is important since I like the weight and OAL of the Streamlight.

If you're looking to stay thin check out the bi-level 12" optic rail.  http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=43&t=269259&page=1
