OK....Today I finally got to take my rifle out for it's first range trip after being back from MSAR...(had a trigger reset issue that they fixed in a hurry, thanks guys!!!)  Trigger would not reset when I bought the rifle, the previous owner had improperly installed one of those T.T. things......had it removed, now I'm good to go.

Rifle shot great, got my Aimpoint sighted-in in less than 20 rounds, but the bolt would not lock back after the last round on any of my mags....I've got (3) 42 round, (1) 30 round, and the 10 rounder that came with it.  The rifle is very clean, less than 50 rounds fired thru it.  I even tried switching the gas adjustment to the "dirty" setting, but this did not help.

Rifle functioned perfect.....went bang every time I pulled the trigger, just would not lock back.

Any Suggestions ????   Is this a mag issue or a rifle issue ???

editted to add:  rifle appears to be 2nd gen. (tulip f/h) and mags are amber MSAR's.

1) Is it well-lubed? When new I found that running it "wet" improves reliability while breaking it in.
2) What sort of ammo were you using?
3) Does the bolt lock back on an empty mag when cycling manually?

The few "bolt doesn't lock back" problems I experienced were with new mags and/or using low powered ammo like Wolf.

Next time you hit the range try loading your mags w/only 5-10rds at a time and see if they'll start locking back. I had a few mags that wore-in after a few loads and finally started locking the bolt back after the last shot. HTH and keep us posted!

I was doing this today after I realized what was happening.....I only loaded 3 rounds per mag & rotated thru them all to see if any would lock back....but none would.

How many times did you try each mag?

I would guess that I shot about 3 or 4   3-shot groups from each mag......

Try it a few times more, perhaps using a single mag only for 4-5 loads and if it starts to lock the bolt back then you know its mag related. If not (timing issue?) then unfortunately it may be time to give MSAR a call.

I would also remove the hammer pack and put a drop or two of oil on and around the bolt hold open catch and work it up and down making sure it raises freely without a lot of resistance.

I'm actually thinking about REMOVING the BHO from my STG556.

Nearly every time I insert a full mag the top round pops out and jams me up while I shake it out.

I shoot the rifle in 3-Gun and need to load quickly.  Don't have time to baby the mag into the rifle!

I'm gonna try my STG556 in a local match or two....but I think the trigger will slow me down, compared to the trigger on my JP rifle.

It'll be fun though....I like having something a little different from everyone else....

Never had that problem and I don't baby my mags at all.
