Does the top rail on the AXR sit lower than the top rail on the STG, and if so what are the actual heights? For those of you who have handled the two rifles, if the rail heights are in fact different did one provide a better set up for optics than the other?

I can not say what the MSAR is, but I can tell you that the rail height of the AXR is approximately 0.200" taller than that of your standard M4(gery) flat top.  This allows you to direct mount an EOTECH with out a riser.  With a 1-4x type tactical optic Medium height rings seems to fit the bill most of the time.  Aimpoints with the cantilever mounts seem a touch high for me, but still very workable.  I hope this helps you out.

HK45shooter had a thread about this maybe 2 months back with this very question, and there was an answer in it to boot.

Sure it was him? I just did a search (both regular and archive) and didn't find anything on this topic.

I thought it was him, I even remeber posting some info in the thread.  Hmm, maybe try seraching for 'rail' or 'optic' and see what comes up.

I do recall that the AXR picatinny rail was fractionally lower than the MSAR rail, but I think it was like .085" or something small like that which had no real impact.

My bad, I think it was HK_DUDE who asked the question in a thread.  Try seraching his screen name, or shooting him a PM, he might know the answer.
