Just got back from my first range trip with mine.
I wouldn’t change a thing. Hands down one of the best overall purchases I’ve ever made. Everything worked. First time. Every time. It’s not often these days that you spend money and feel so damn good about it. |

He had just bought a Labradar a few months ago and didn’t want to take a 250$ hit selling it. He hated the setup, app failures and missing shots with his benchrest .22’s, but the resale value took a serious hit. After 5 minutes of using the Garmin, we had one ordered for him. He was able to access all of the features and menus without reading anything about it. That wasn’t remotely true with the LR. |

Borrowed a friends Xero today. Didn't even read the instructions. Getting results in less than 30 seconds from sitting down to set it up. Flawless pickup on every shot. 22lr sub sonics. The app exported everything into a very nice, pre organized ! .csv file. Don't worry about having a bunch of raw data spit out at you in the .csv...THE APP DOES IT FOR YOU. Perfect, usable spreadsheet instantly. It is insanely impressive.
It missing one thing, however. A ballistic solution component. I'm sure they are working with Applied Ballistics on a solution, just as with the Tactix 7 Ballistic watch. |

I saw one at the range last weekend. Working perfectly in rainy conditions (I was wondering if rain would mess with it... Nope).
I couldn't hold out any longer and ordered one today. 600 bucks for a chrono is a hard pill to swallow, but the quantum leap in usability over my old optical CED will be extremely nice to say the least. My phone is too old to use the app... Hopefully that won't be a big deal. |

According to Garmin, the operating range is -10°C to 55°C (14°F to 131°F) so shutting down near that temperature would fall in line with their expectations. That said, I am curious to see how it functions in even colder temperatures. Usually this time of the year it's -20°C to -30°C (-4°F to -22°F), which I think would be a nice test for it but "unfortunately" it's been a very mild winter so far. I hope I don't get to test it any time soon. |

For those who have one already, if you are doing load development and say shooting 3-5 rounds at each load level do you just start a new session for each string or is there a way to have a new series? When I used a labradar I just started a new series and it kept track like series 1, series 2... and then I would know which series went with which load. What's the workflow like with the garmin?
It's super easy to start a new series. Couple button pushes. What I usually do. Way, way less persnickety than my LabRadar.
There is not, to my knowledge, a way to group multiple series into a header category, but each series can be labeled by the bullet weight. Each series is tagged with a date and time stamp, so sequencing is fairly easy. You can also add notes to each series in the app if you want. I just did ladder tests for 45 and 10mm last week, alternating between the two to keep it entertaining. Had no issue at all identifying them in the app. |
Mine has been absolutely perfect. Everything from 22 LR to 380 and 9mm pistols to 357 Mag rifle and 300 Win Mag, zero dropped shots. None. Even having a small hump of dirt near the flight path of the bullet close tot he radar did nothing to disturb the results. Not too often does a shooting accessory come around that absolutely lives up to the hype, but this one does. I love that I can name shot strings and add notes, then download a spreadsheet that includes everything. I really like my Magnetospeed V3, but I don't see myself using it anymore unless I'm shooting where there is insufficient range to use the Garmin. I pulled the battery out of the Magnetospeed and filed it away in the safe for now. This thing is absolutely spectacular.

The slight height increase capability (since this can also be shorter) was perfect for me off of the bench. It was also interesting to note the Garmin analyzing shots from the shooter next to me. We were about 4 feet apart and both shooting to the same berm so I could certainly see how his bullets would enter the Garmin zone. Every shot of mine was recorded and every shot of his was dropped. The Garmin would display "Analyzing" when he fired but then immediately discard it, as the shot counter remained in sync with my shots fired. I've read about others experiencing the same but was cool to see it in action. The algorithm they use definitely does a great job at filtering out unwanted shots it seems. |
Took one out to the range this weekend. Shooting and getting data about 30 seconds after set up. No dropped shots, worked in the rain fine, seamless data into the app.
I do wish they would make it to where you can dump multiple strings into the same “session” as some of us alternate different caliber rifles. Small gripe but would make it even more useful than it already is. |
Mine arrived last week, I took it to the pit on Saturday, same result as everyone: I put it on my scope stand, roughly pointed it downrange and it just picked up every shot. It ignored the guys next to me shooting clays. Conditions were 38 degrees and light rain, it got a little wet but didn't seem to mind. I had my magnetospeed on the rifle for comparison, however I had the sensitivity set to HI from a recent .22 session so it was acting up. Next time out I'll collect data for comparison. In the past the magnetospeed has agreed within 1% with labradars. The only anomaly I had: I ran it exactly as it came out of the box, with v3.17 firmware and it worked fine. When I left the pit it had the session in memory. Then when I got home I installed the app and upgraded firmware to 3.20. The session was still on the unit, but there was no shot data. Hopefully that was just a glitch in the sync and update process. I've owned a shooting chrony and magnetospeed, and rented the labradar at my old club quite often. This thing is much, much easier to set up. |

I know I'll never go home.

Worked great, but as for starting new sessions I was hoping it would be a bit easier to start a new "group" not a whole new session. Unless I'm missing something, it's a bit tedious to end session - new session - rifle - velocity range - click through the weight - and see the screen on how to place it. Would be nice if there was a shortcut for that. Or is the expectation that you would shoot all in one session and then separate afterwards in the app? Since I was using different powder charges I like not having the all bunched up. |

I rarely walk away utterly impressed by something that's generated as much hype as this unit has, but I have to admit that it does in fact live up to it. There is one but, however. I am a man who repairs and maintains his own equipment. This unit has a non-user replaceable battery inside. At a certain point this battery will die. It may even expand as many of these batteries do when they age. This is an expensive bit of kit that I can't repair something as prosaic as a damned battery. It's not a deal killer, but this is another example of a company making the decision that either only they will be allowed to repair something, or that it won't be repaired at all. That means, philosophically, you do not own this even though you paid for it. All that said, it is a very impressive unit and I can't see how current offerings of Labradar or Magnetospeed compete against this thing, except on the basis of price. View Quote All that really means is you have to be a bit more talented and careful when you do get to the point of replacing the battery. I havent taken one of these apart, but if they follow the pattern of their GPS's first the battery will easily outlive the useful life of the rest of the unit, and second, the batteries will be easily available and not difficult to change. |

Can anyone share experience with the Xero on an indoor range with a steel trap/ back stop?
I inherited a old school PACT Model 1 chronograph. I hated setting that thing up and didn't even attempt it at a public range. Then if the sun wasn't right it started missing shots right as I got to the loads I really needed data on.
Finally got to take my Garmin Xero C1 out to the range and it picked up everything I threw at it. Setup was a breeze. Does exactly what I want it to and is small and compact. |

I don’t know if it is a result of hornady’s soft brass or just pushing 8208 too hard. 8208 has been a powder that performs best for me near its limit though. I will test again in better conditions (but similar temps) to see if there is any deviation. Something else I noticed, the Garmin was extremely forgiving on where it was aimed. I shot at both 200 and 500 yard targets probably around 20 degrees apart without moving the unit and it had no trouble picking up every shot. |

Picked up a Xero Saturday and made it to the range today. Another shooter had a Labradar we set up with the Xero and I shot .223 suppressed and unsuppressed. The two units only differed 1-2 FPS on any given round, the labradar failed to pick up/register the suppressed shots. We even set it up next to a 50 BMG, it picked up the shots fine but was in danger of being blown of the table from muzzle blast. I’m impressed.

I bragged (maybe) on my LabRadar earlier, and it let me down last Friday. One shot was recorded out of about 32, and it was wrong.
I tried several settings with no improvement. The current phone ap works well, but it needs an "accept" button. I didn't try new batteries as the charge level never showed below 75%. I was aggravated until I simply load tested for pressure and accuracy. I looked back at my notes when I worked through set ups after I bought the chronograph and need to use some of those lessons. The dang thing worked great the last time I shot this rifle until the rifle jammed up. (Marlin 1894) I might have to start a box of stuff that cost a fortune that has been replaced by better and lower cost tools. I'm looking at that nice endoscope ... |
Keep your powder dry, and watch your back trail.
I'm one session in with mine, and my experience is just about like everyone else's... about 5 clicks, set it on the table pointed in the general direction of the target, shoot, and it just works without a care in the world about any environmental factors.
The only missed shot was during a pistol string when I fired again while it was still "processing" the last shot. So, I'd say you have to wait for the reading from the previous shot to display before shooting the next one. Other than that, on the unit, perfection. My phone is too old to run the app, so I loaded the app on my girlfriend's iPhone... this isn't a huge deal to me, but I'm kind of "meh" so far on the app. It might be me, but I have two annoyances so far: 1) there doesn't seem to be a way to force a firmware update even once it connects and shows there is an update available. I just left them connected and after about 20 minutes the unit randomly decided now was the time and came up with a prompt on the Garmin screen to initiate an update. It would be nice to have firm control over when that happens. 2) After shooting, some of the data seems to come into the app (my stored rifle strings) while stored pistol strings did not. I haven't spent a whole lot of time with it, so again this could be me, but I don't see a way to determine when/what data gets imported, or any way to export it. So overall the app seems about useless to me so far, except for random firmware updates... maybe they will improve it, or maybe I need to spend more time with it; not sure yet. |
Roughly 800rds in with mine now. Indoors and outdoors, rifle, pistol, and rim fire.
I’m gonna sound like a broken record here, but this thing really is the bees knees. Easy to setup, never misses a shot, app is great, battery life is great, small and packable, the works. I’m a data nerd, so I’ve been recording everything I shoot since buying it. It’s so easy to setup and use that it just makes sense to get info from every range session. |

I was alway happy with it AFTER the fiddling to get it aimed correctly. But it really was nice after it was dialed in. Looking forward to both the size of the Garmin and the apparently foolproof set up. Any suggestion on the best deal(s) on the Garmin right now? |
