I'm ready to start loading up a new round. I am using CMMG 8" barrel. Powder is Lil-Gun,primer is CCI 41, case are processed LC @ 1.360"
147gr General Dynamic.

So far I've looked at Hogdon for their recommendation for their powder using a 150gr ( closest to my 147gr ).

It seems at least all the load data I've come across is with using a 26" barrel. I understand that I will have a reduced velocity but is there any other concerns I need to have if I follow the Hogdon recipe?

This is only a plinking/fun gun. Possibly home defense. Thanks ahead for any advice.

I was mistaken on primer I have to use. I'll be using the CCI 450 small rifle magnum primer. I have the CCI 400 and 41 on hand if I need to use that instead. Any help appreciated.

Thanks for your help. I'm still fuzzy on the ogive method but will not proceed until I'm clearly understanding it.

Please bare with me as I want to see if I'm understanding this.

The "ogive" is the section of the bullet that extends in the curved section from the tip to the leading edge of the bearing surface on the bullet?

And the .250" mark on the ogive is ideally in line with the magazine rub as to allow the new 300 cartridge/bullet to feed as a normal .223 rd?

Basically duplicating the critical dimensions of the .223 rd necessary to feed properly.

Once the ogive mark is inline with rib on magazine that is where bullet is seated to giving you the COAL?

I'm asking these statements in a question form to ask if I'm understanding the .250 ogive method correctly. Thanks a lot.

If I'm doing the ogive method correctly then my COAL is 2.095
That places my lines that I marked on bullet at the .250" diameter of ogive section right at edge of magazine rib. Thanks

Thank you so much dryflash. I will start my loading this morning. I am hoping to find out what you think about crimping and if you do then just how much?

I'm using RCBS FL Die Set #22401
If I'm understanding the directions it states this seating die has a "tapered " crimp ability if one desires to crimp.
Thanks ahead once again.

I know this is a different topic but I've been reading up on your other stuff and I value your opinion.

I've only loaded 10 rds this morning since last post. I was trying to get a very light crimp and get seated properly too. I agree on the aggregation part for sure.

I will adjust crimp back out of process and only seat bullet for now.

The bulk 147 gr bullets are extremely inconsistent as far as their lengths go. I'm concerned about seating into my powder. I had adjusted the seating depth to 2.110" just to reduce risk of bullet seating into powder. I don't know enough about that issue to take any chances,

I wonder how much can I raise bullet out of seat without hurting performance?

Thanks again.

I use 15gr seated to the cannelure for plinkers with that bullet.

I have used some M80 pulled 147 Grain bullets and while they shot, they were not exactly accurate. I ran them through both a short 8.5 in barrel with and without suppressor and a 16 in barrel. The load info for supersonic rounds was 16.5 grains of H Lil' Gun loaded to 2.15 oal. As others have said the M80 pulled bullets aren't very consistent on both length and weight. However, for a 16 inch gun to plink they are more than effective, by that I mean I can shoot my steel silhouette at 100 yards all day long. I gave up on trying to truly see how accurate they were when I was sighting in my scope, I was happy then with 5 shots inside a 2 inch group at 50 yards. For the subsonics, I loaded it with 8.5 grains on H Lil' Gun, it too was inaccurate but fun to shoot and cheap!

All the load data I used for the 147 Gr, I transferred directly to my Sierra Matchking BTHP 150 grain bullets. Now those are going to be a kick butt deer round out of my 16 inch gun.

Thanks for your input. When you tried the 8.5gr , did you try it in your 8.5” barreled gun too? If so did it cycle ?

I tried 8 then 9gr yesterday and it actually shot better but no cycling. The cases were sooty too. But is was very cool to NOT hear the loud blast. Thanks

I'm also using 15gr Lil-gun with the Hornady 150gr flat base soft points. Accuracy is very good. Personally I'd call it excellent considering that its an inexpensive upper.

I'm using CCI-400s. No problems.

smitters. Will the BO push those Sierra 150gr BTHP fast enough to be effective?

I love the way my rifle shoots the 150gr Hornady SP but when I get around to loading a deer round I'm going with the 125gr SST with canalure.

Considering the 125gr SMK exhibits no frag/expansion in .300blk color me skeptical that any 150gr will be in its performance envelope in this caliber.

110-135 are where its at in .300 IMO
