The master thread is a nightmare.  I am simply looking for a decent starting load and COAL using IMR 4227, H110, or   WIN 296.  I did quite a bit of looking around on the web but really couldn't find anything solid.  Anyone running these combinations?

With 125 gr Speer TNT in 300 blk, I use 19.5 grs Lil'Gun, (that I worked up to), LC annealed cases, Wolf SRM, OAL 2.045, light crimp.

This is a very accurate bullet that used to be low cost.

I picked up 500 bullets off the EE recently for next to  nothing. Out of curioisity, why the crimp on a bullet with no canneleur? I'm only a 5 year reloader still trying to absorb knowledge

18.5gr of LilGun
19gr of W296/H110

Shoots right at about an inch for me from my 16" barrel.

SSTs shoot better though, right about 3/4", but usually the TnTs are cheaper.

I think this is the key here - working up.  I got some pretty darn healthy velocities with Lil'gun, but also went from no pressure signs to blowing primers out and deforming case heads in 1/2 grain.  So you have to treat this process with a healthy dose of respect.

Has nothing to do with .300BO, but I have found light loads of 4198 and the 125gr TNT bullet are great as a plinker/practice load in  a .308 Win case.

Do you have any 4198?  Could be worth a try.

You are correct, as either type of 4198 (H or IMR) is not suitable for 300 blk. Too slow burning for this cartridge.

Yikes, my apologies.  I forgot the Blackout is based on a .223 cartridge.  For some reason I was thinking it was based on the 7.62x39 case....which would make the .300 Blackout basically identical to a 7.62x39mm.

DOH!

You're exactly right. I always do a good work up. Just needed an idea for a starting point. Mainly needed a coal. The replies here are very appreciated!

When I started loading 300 blk when it first came out I had accuracy issues.

A light crimp with a FCD solved that problem.

Had case splitting issues until I learned to anneal.

Did you buy a case annealer or are you doing it by hand?

Yep, really lite 4198 loads are actually subsonic.

OP, I like 18 grains of H110 with 125 Nosler BT's.   That is in the ball park with some other posts too.  You have a couple of good loads to work up for.  I've found the faster I push the 125's the better they do, especially those designed for .308 Win.

I use 750 degree Tempilaq, a cordless screwdriver with a socket to turn the brass, and heat with a torch.

A spot of Tempilaq is placed inside the case neck with the built in brush in the Tempilaq screw top. Let dry, takes about a minute. Will dry to a light blue color.

Case is placed in a 3/8 socket and held so that you can see the dot of Tempilaq as the case rotates in the screwdriver.

Heat (torch) is applied to the neck of the case as it rotates, takes about 6 revolutions and Tempilaq will go from light blue to clear. (Tempilaq is indicating that 750 degrees was reached)

That's when case is removed from heat, screwdriver is tipped allowing case to fall into a metal pan to cool. Repeat with next case.

Takes about 5-6 seconds to heat a case and anneal it. A low budget method that was posted here many times.

Tempilaq shop around, I see the price went up $5 since I stocked up a month or so ago.

Dryflash, do you have any problem removing the tempilaq residue from the case necks? do you run them through the tumbler or other?

As always, work up a load in your rifle. This one is quite accurate in mine.

Bing it.

Large Rifle primers. Probably just a mental holdover ".30 cal=LR" or brainfart.

Yeah, that was a typo. Just plain CCI SRPs (#400).

I took a 4 day rifle course and used the 125gr speer TNT. They ran flawless and gave good accuracy with very little cost. Especially when you are shooting over 800 rounds of it.
