Just started loading 223's and loaded up 10 rounds of Hornady 55g FMJ with 24.3g of H335 and CCI400 primer in once fired brass prepped by me. Went and fired them today to see what I was getting and 7 of the 10 rounds were within 10FPS of each other and high to low was within 30FPS. I got 2803-2831FPS with the 7 between 2814-2823FPS. Is that good/bad/about normal for handloading? I had shot some factory rounds through a chrono several years ago and seems like I would get 100FPS+ from hi to low.

Pretty consistent in my book.  Keep doing whatever you are doing.

One more ? those were my test rounds so I weighed each one(i'm using a Hornady powder drop). When I start mass producing how often should I check the powder weight being thrown and how many consecutive throws? I'm thinking about checking it every 30 rounds and then 5 throws in a row.

H-335 meters very well. In most quality mechanical powder dispensers it will drop nearly as accurately as you could hand trickle it.

I wouldn't expect much difference at all when you start using your progressive.

When you start check the first couple then maybe again after 5 then maybe 1 in 10. It take long for you to realize how accurate it will drop charges of H-335.

With any quality powder measure like your Hornady, and good technique, ball powder (H-335) will measure exact.

No need to weigh charges after your PM is set.

I dummied up some numbers that match your description and calculated the SD . . . which was <=8. That's very very good, particularly good IMO for 223.

You will of course re-run your test when using thrown (rather than hand-weighed) powder charges. You will very likely find the results not as good. Whether that's important to you or not is up to you and what your goals are.

Thrown charges using H335 and a Hornady PM will likely range +/-0.5gr. You can test that yourself by weighing 10-20 consecutive charges. Typically that range is acceptable for plinking and for many other uses. That may or may not meet your precision goals, if any, depending on what they are.

You did not mention how well the 10 shots grouped at what range.

Those 10 rounds were charged using the Hornady. I just weighed each throw to make sure it was good and each one was.

These are plinking rounds, when I do any precision loading I plan on weighing each round. Once I got it adjusted to the proper weight being thrown I did weigh 10-15 straight before I started loading those 10. I was getting throws from my target of 24.3g to a max of 24.5 with all but 2-3 hitting the 24.3 mark.

Did not get to really check grouping, I didn't go prepared for that. My main goal was to check the function and get the chrony readings. Just went to a friend's that lives out in the country and picked up a 8" steel plate from a gun show on the way and shot at it. I didn't have a proper support for it and it kept falling but I hit it most of the time from 50yds even when it was hanging from 1 chain and at a 45 degree angle to me
