I changed bullet types in my .308 loads and ended up about .030 shorter than the load book suggested oal . The load is 1 grain under max . Should I pull these ? is .030 enough to matter ? My search did not turn up a lot of information . These are 125 grain .308s if it makes a difference

They most likely be safe.

But, with a new bullet, I would rework the load to find the new sweet spot and for safety. Maybe only 3 rounds per load, just to verify pressure signs.

Even if they turn out over pressure, solid components in a solid rifle aren't likely to become unsafe.

As an alternative, if you have a kinetic puller you can give each cartridge a whack or two so the bullet slides out a little. Then run them back through a correctly adjusted seating die. Effectively no harm is done to the bullet shank, no harm is done to the tip since the bullet does not completely come out, no loss of powder/primer. Gain is the cartridges will perform as if they were loaded to your intended measurements . . . which they now will be.

My first impression as well.

The only time I'll change bullets without doing pressure testing is when I'm using a middle of the range load. Definitely not only one grain under maximum.

The .030" is near meaningless in my opinion. Especially .030" shorter. You are more likely to have a pressure difference because of the bullets shape or construction then a difference of seating depth unless of course the difference is longer and is making bullet jump zero.

Seating bullets deeper in bottle neck cases changes the internal volume of the case very little, but it does have in influence on pressure.

I'll guess that the seater die was set up for a different bullet and locked down; this issue is one reason I never set and forget dies, I adjust them for each session to eliminate as many surprises as possible.

What I would do is bump the cartridges to move the bullets out, then reseat them to the correct length.
