Loading some LC brass with nosler 69 grain custom comp. my nosler manual states a oal of 2.260 but when I try them in the AR they won't feed. Anyone use a different oal than noslers data?

Sure... seat them a little shorter and adjust the powder charge weight...
A few thousand's shorter really shouldn't make much difference. When you say they won't feed... I assume you mean feed into the chamber from a fresh mag.... so they are "hanging" up in the mag. If it is something different than that... be more specific please.... i.e. ... bolt won't lock.. round won't cycle..etc. Include your load data and rifle type as well... |

No need to adjust powder charge when seating deeper, unless the adjustment is for accuracy and not pressure. Seating Deeper in a bottle necked rifle round Decreases pressure, it does not increase it. |
| I load 77 Nosler CC's at 2.250" with the longest overall length not over 2.255". One of my AR's won't feed at maximum length at 2.260" or longer. My Nosler CC hollowpoint bullets vary in seated depth because of the irregular tip shape of the hollowpoint. Most of mine are around 2.250" with some shorter and a few longer than 2.250" but never over 2.255". If you're trying for a 2.260" average you will run into several too long to feed in some rifles. I measure them all for oal and if I find one bullet with a long jagged tip on one side of the hollowpoint I take a smooth file and file the high spot down about .005" with just a couple strokes of a smooth file. I don't see any difference at all in accuracy. Some even use a tool that cuts hollowpoint tips evenly. It's called a meplat uniformer like this article:http://www.6mmbr.com/MCRMeplat.html |

2.260" is considered maximum OAL because of magazine limitations. My .233 Winchester M70 bolt action can go much longer than that.
I use 2.250" has a margin for safety, that even can be pushing the limits because there is a wide variation in nose imperfections. Find the longest bullet of the batch and load it at 2.250' and your problems will disappear. |

If your loads don't feed from the mag, you 'minds well be shooting a single shot. |
