This is my fastest way to reload 5.56 223. I use an electric drill to trim the case length and ream the primer pocket. Let me know what you all think.

How do you guys speed up reloading 5.56 / 223

Link made hot, and you should learn how, it's simple.  Also, you'll find some great tutorials at the top of the forum.  AeroE

I use a drill to remove the crimp, if that's what you mean.

Yup.

And a Dillon 1050 with trimmer is going to be the quickest. Consequently probably the most expensive.

Agreed. I do decently well with my Dillon 650 and a WFT for plinking loads. Anymore, I don't really go for maxing out my reloading speeds - I'd rather take my time and enjoy an hour or two of loading and being careful. I load 223 in two stages (1: Decap, size, trim, debur/chamfer, ream primer pockets if necessary, 2: prime, charge, seat, crimp), so I'll usually spend a loading session just doing one or the other for consistency.

a good powder measurer and a quick way to trim brass will speed up the process....

The problem of fast, cheap, and easy in anything that has to do with reloading is that you can only pick two at a time.

This is how I trim "on the cheap".

I use the Hornady primer crimp reamer in the drill too but use a set of  spark plug wire pliers "sissy pliers" to hold the cases.

Some don't skimp and some do.  I think that it's taken me 20 years to reach my current ranking of average in equipment clutter, I mean ownership.

I commented on this thread on another forum but since so many here are so fixated with trimmers .........

I don't why I waited so long but I'm now using RCBS X-DIEs for .308 Win and 30-06 and will be very soon for .223

When you only need to do it once it really doesn't matter what you trim with.

Welcome to Arfcom and the Reloading Forum.

Top of the page, read FAQ's and it will explain how to hot link and post pics.

(to be honest many here won't bother with a cold link, I must admit I'm one of those)

I use a Giraud to trim. Trims, deburs and chamfers all at the same time. Takes about 20 minutes to trim 1K.

Never knew they were that efficient.  What do they cost?

Fast, cheap, easy. Pick 2.

With a Giraud, throw out the cheap. I believe they are around $450 ish now days?

I use an RT1200 on my 650 for trimming.  One pass for depriming, swaging, sizing and trimming.  One pass for primer, powder, bullet and crimp.

I also have a giraud for match brass prep.

Welcome to ARFCOM.

Mind blown. Off to buy some sissy pliers.

The pliers will hold a 30-06 case as is. For smaller cases like the .223 I put some heat shrink tubing over the "jaws" that hold the case to reduce the inside diameter. When the tubing was still warm, I placed a .223 case in the jaws and squeezed it gently. This allows the shrink tubing to form to the case shape. Works great.

I can see that I'm going to sacrifice a Lee priming tool to hold cases for trimming with my Possum Hollow trimmer.

I'll probably check out the pliers, too.
