I've used a few different models of beam scales over the years, and was wondering what ARF thinks is the best beam scale.

Scales Ive used:

RCBS 10-10 this is a nice scale but dont like the wheel 1/10 grain adjustment.
RCBS 5-10 good scale but has the 1/10 wheel adjustment
RCBS 505  numbers are easy to read, the fine grain adjustment can be made easily.
Lee - worked OK, just had a hard time with repeatably
Hornady M5 - I liked this one a lot, but took too long for the needle to stop moving.  I dont think mine was magnetic.
Lyman - I thought the numbers were to close making it hard to read.
Dillon was pretty much the same as RCBS 505 just blue and more $
Ohaus 505 - this is just a brown RCBS 505 - this is the one I'm currently using, and my favorite so far.

I know Ohaus makes most if not all of these.  But what is your guys experience, whats your favorite scale?

I like my 5-10.  The wheel adjustment for 1/10 grains feels a lot more stable to me than the small, movable poise other scales use.  It's similar to the adjustments on Ohaus' really precise analytical balances.  I'd "prefer" a knob that lets me adjust in tenths, if not a click adjust, but that would probably cost as much to implement as the rest of the scale.

There's been on going discussions on other sites of how the newer RCBS 505 (& possibly other models) are now made in China or Mexico.   I own both an old 80s U.S. Made and a newer Chinese made 505, they both seem to work fine.  Exception that the China made 505 is built with a thinner metal base.

I like the 505. A better way to change tenths of a grain would be nice, but it's not a huge deal.

+1  My 10/10 is going on twenty five years and as accurate as the day I bought it.

An old 10-10 and 5-10 are my favorites.

The new 10-10's are crap.

I have an old RCBS 505 that I dropped and broke long ago.  I used it for many years before switching to an electronic scale.  The 505 is well made and very consistent.  It has a little magnet near the end of the beam that dampens its movement, very clever.  Its only real drawback is slowness compared to the electronic model.  I have a mind to send it back for refurbishment and then pass it on to a new reloader via EE.  RCBS is famous for keeping their old equipment alive indefinitely. - CW

I'm a 505 guy. Have had a 5-10, but liked the 505 better.

Just be sure to have it at eye level like mine, so you won't get any parallax error.

I've been real happy with my refurbed Lyman M (aka 1010), but am still jonesing for an Ohaus Dial-O-Grain.
