really that close to H335? Thinking about getting some.
Thanks, Dave |

I got a 8lb jug a couple years ago. I have used it for .223, .308, & 7.5x54Mas so far.
With all 3 of these caliber the WC-844 that I have has produced very similar performance to H-335. There is no rock solid guarantee that all of it out there will be the same but it should be close. What this means is that if you were using it for near maximum loads you should back off the load and work back up when you buy your next jug. Motor1 |

Not as cheap as it once was for what it is to make it attractive for me any longer.
The lot a lot variance does not make it attractive at its current price point for me. The consumer grade H335 is much more attractive having a much smaller variance with a little more expense. IMO H335 is a better choice unless 844 is significantly less expensive. |

It was only worth buying when it was less expensive than H335 by at least $30. I'm still shooting some of the rounds that I made with it, but my powder stash is long gone.
I don't think we'll be seeing it affordable for a while as everything I've seen in the last six months was new production powder. |
| I've bought several different lots of WC 844 over the years with lots described as pull-down or virgin never loaded. It used to be a good deal but at prices today it isn't worth it for me. You have to work up loads every time you switch lots or buy a new lot of surplus powder and wasting components and time at the range. Just to compare some of my lots to my standard load using H335 commercial powder which I load 55 FMJ's at 25 grains. Some lots to equal the 25 grain H335 velocity as little as 24-24.2 grains of WC 844 equaled 25 grains of H335 in velocity. Other lots even up to 26 grains didn't get the velocity of 25 grains of H335 but a few lots seemed identical to H335 in velocity. So you may get faster or slower powder than H335 or if lucky nearly identical burn rates. Plus you really don't know how old the surplus powder really is. Not saying not to try surplus WC 844 but you will have to do a complete work-up with what you buy and do it again if you buy more later. To make it worthwhile buy as much as you plan to shoot for a long time so you only have to work up once. |
