Hello, just picked up a 9mm conversion for my newly aquired Square Deal....pulling it out of the box This was with it.

Anybody know what this is?

Also the press is filled with stuck on powder grains... almost like someone sprayed it down then rolled it around in powder.

I'm thinking about just washing it out in the sink then drying it out in front of a heat vent.

Any better ideas? It will not come off with a vacuum or canned duster.

Thanks in advance

Did that part come with the conversion or the press?
I'm pretty sure that is part #80: collar sleeve.
I think I'd try to get an old toothbrush in there to brush the powder out rather than wash it out.

Honestly I'm not sure if it came with the conversion or not. I tried getting it with a toothbrush but it's stuck on pretty good

That is part 80.   IDK how you are gonna clean that hopper, call Dillon and order a new one if it's trashed.

My manual lists it as 13845 collar sleeve.

It fits under the powder measure, above the expander/powder funnel in the powder die.

Thanks that's it, the hopper isn't so bad it's just coated on everything else, I'm trying to avoid dealing with dillon...called for some questions the other day and guy was rude and didn't seem like he wanted to help. I thought they were sopposed to have a good warranty but I have a broken spring on my priming system and would have had to pay for the spring plus a stupid amount for shipping ot

Those guys are usually pretty good, but you get a cranky one once in a while.
You might as well tear down the press and clean it all, check for anymore broken parts in the ram.
They are pretty easy to strip down.
Call Dillon back you'll prolly get someone different, they might give you the parts.

[#7]
I would call them again, the chances are small you will get the same guy again.

I don't normally call unless I'm also ordering parts.

My normal method is emailing them. But I always include my customer #.

Dillon should replace any broken parts and send a new hopper.

The plastic part will fall out when the powder measure is removed if the tab is pulled out too far.

Good luck.

How's this for porn: retail is up around $385 now I believe! (Still an excellent value IMHO) " />

I've been running this machine since '87 in 9mm, .38/.357, .40S&W/10mm, .45ACP and .44Mag/spl with only minor repairs and maintenance; tens of thousands of rounds.
in 2011, while doing a caliber change over, I had a helicoil come out of the frame.
I called Dillon and was instructed to send it in.
I got it back 2 weeks later. They had replaced nearly the entire machine;  the frame, primer assembly, new powder measure assembly,  various washers and bearings/small parts in the linkage and press and the charge?
$0!!
Of course I was familiar with Dillons warranty before this but, after nearly 30 years of honest and reliable use, I would have gladly paid for SOMETHING.
Needless to say I am a customer for life.
I guess what I'm saying with this (too) long post is, call them again. While it's no excuse, maybe you just caught the guy on a bad day.

Oh, and, sorry if I high jacked your thread

That's what I paid for my first one too...so much ammo thru it and very few issues in 28 years.
They do like a nice cleaning a couple times a year, particularly the priming assembly.

Wipe the press down with paper towels and isopropyl alcohol.  Blow out the crevices with high pressure compressed air.  The press probably ought to be disassembled for cleaning and lubrication, at least far enough to get the major components out of the way.

I got my used Square Deal with two sets of dies for $65 from a coworker getting out of guns.  Best reloading money I ever spent.

This has been the response I've received when dealing with them on the phone. I've always been told I "can purchase the part for $X"..

It's possible the warranty does not say that Dillon will replace every part or fix every failure at no cost to the press owner.  I'm not going to read it to find out, but that would be a good step for everyone that owns Dillon equipment.

Usually Dillon help has chimed here by now.  Anyone that ever thought Dillon parts are low cost never bothered to check the prices in their catalog.

This is the only comment I can find about warranty, from the back of the SDB manual (available for down load directly from Dillon's web site):

Friend at the Factory

We started this manual by saying if you have a problem, call us. We mean it. Anyone can make a mistake. There’s no such thing as a dumb question. If something is giving you a problem, let us help you!
Technical Support: 1-800-223-4570

NOTICE: This machine is designed specifically to be a manually operated handloading machine. Any attempts to mechanize this product will void the warranty. We specifically warn against converting this product to automated or motorized operation.
All Dillon machines are warrantied for life from defects in material or workmanship, except the XL/Super 1050, plus a one year 100% warranty against normal wear. All electrical/electronic components in Dillon equipment are covered by a one year warranty.

With that sort of non-specific complaint, I'd say you should hold off on airing it here.

What is your reloading experience?

Reloading about 2 years and probably about 10,000 rounds. I have experience dealing with RCBS and LEE and they have both been nothing but polite and helpfull

I stand by my post about them being rude

I will add, I did receive a email back from dillon...which was very helpful and answered my questions.

So for me I will just email and support questions I may have and avoid calling

Dillon has a note on their web site that their on line help has been off line since last year.

No doubt, RCBS customer service is superb, way beyond necessary.
