Who in here reloads .240 Wby mag. Im thinking about getting a weatherby vanguard in .240 Wby mag and was going to reload for it. I have a Lee breech lock challenger press. Anything I need to know before I go ahead and pull the trigger on getting this gun, reloading wise?

I owned a .257 Wby Mag years back. Other than using a fairly large amount of powder (my old records show I used a 90 grain bullet over 71.0 grains of H4831) , it was no different than loading any other caliber.

All the Weatherby magnums have a horrendous muzzle blast and buying brass for them is a spendy and often frustrating exercise.

Even if you neck size, you'll eventually have to full-length size and since the cases can be a little tough to push through the full-length sizer die, I dunno if a Challenger press has the gumption.

Honestly, it's a whole lot more gun than most folks on the East Coast need (but it ain't about need, is it? ) and it will knock huge holes in NC deer and black bear, as well as wake the entire county with the blast and last, the recoil ain't all that much fun either.

I happily sold my .257 to a dude that was going to Africa and he sold it to someone else as soon as he got back.

I loaded for a .300 Wby. years ago.  Learn how to set your sizing die to push back the shoulder only .001 - .002" when full length sizing.  Any more and the brass hangs from the belt and stretches badly.  I was getting bright rings of incipient head separation after only 3 loadings of my expensive Norma brass before I learned this.  Other than that nothing special, just feed it lots of powder.
