How much difference in case volume is too much?
Ex. Same exact .223 load, with several different LC head stamps. From my research, different LC head stamped brass is very close in volume. I am sure it becomes an issue with charges close to max, especially for two cases with much different volumes. I don't usually charge max. I am more interested in how this effects match loads when very similar mixed brass is used. I do understand pressures will be higher as volume goes down with the same charge. How much is too much volume difference for a match load? I know, it really isn't match with different cases. Thanks |

If it were me and I was worried about case volume differences I'd make up a bunch of rounds that were match and note the velocity for each individual case. Take that information home and measure the case volume of each case. Look for how much velocity change you get with a change in volume and how many FPS each 0.1cc contributes. |

If you are going to compete at 600-1000 yards then everything matters. In this instance you would want to weigh and measure internal case capacity in grains of H20 and sort accordingly. If you are going to work up "Match" ammo for typical 100-300 yard range fun then i wouldn't worry about it. If you are concerned about increased pressure, not to worry, not enough difference to make a safe load a dangerous load even when working with Max loads. |
