If those are low powder cast loads it would most likely only split the cases or made them into 45 colts.
At least it was easy enough to spot. You ought to see what happens when you mistake a Lee carbide size die for one of their FCDs with the crimp sleeve removed. ![]()
It wasn't me but I was there. |

Glad you caught that before going to the range.
I used to tumble 45Acp, 45 Colt, and 44mag/spl brass together so I could fill the big Dillon tumbler. Picking out the ACP and 44spl was easy, but separating the 44mag from the Colts was a pain. Then when I loaded 45Colt I double checked the head stamps again. I ended missing one once and fired it out of my full size Vaquero. The 44 case held up but I never loaded that one again. The loads were plinking loads, 255 grain cast going about 750fps. Needless to say I don't do that anymore. Anytime I pickup 44mag cases and I'm shooting 45Colt, they go in a separate bag. Quoted: I've seen 5 rounds of 44 mag go through a 45 Colt Ruger Vaquero. The cases were jacked up but the gun held them with no ill effects. The guy shooting said he felt they were a little hotter then normal. ![]() |

But I'll ne using nickled cases for the .44 to help avoid this. Or that's the plan.
