| Have a dumb question regarding primers as my brother and I are just getting started into reloading. Am I correct in thinking that I need small rifle primers to reload 300 blk rounds? And are there variations among small rifle primers or are they all virtually the same from brand to brand? |

I wish it was that easy. LOL
I don't shoot 300 blk but from what I have seen on here the brass is usually made from .223 or 5.56 Nato brass which both use small rifle primers. No. All small rifle primers (SRP) are NOT the same. I am sure you will get some good suggestions on which ones will work good for your 300 blk loads. |

And are there variations among small rifle primers or are they all virtually the same from brand to brand? I'll speak to the 4 major US made brands: - CCi: hardest/thickest metal and toughest to set off. "normal" type priming compound. Use heavy trigger with a heavy spring. -Remington & Winchester: similar, but not as hard. -Federal: "basic" type priming compound. This is the most sensitive type priming compound - meaning its the easiest to set off. It is also the hottest. For 300 BLK, all will "work." I prefer Federal. |
| I use CCI #41s but it really is personal preference. Whatever you get I advise buying in bulk, you will get a better price, will stretch your hazmat fee if mail ordering, and will (usually) have your whole order from the same lot for consistency across your reloads. |
