Went to a gun show this weekend and got lucky and found some powder. I am looking fo a staring load for a 9mm Xtreme plated bullet using titegroup powder. My book doesnt list the bullet or the powder. I have done some reasearch online, however I am confused about the plated bullet comments, do i load using mid range lead or starting load data for FMJ? Any help would be appericated as my teenage son is driving me crazy to do some reloading.

Thanks

I load 124gr Berrys bullets which are plated exactly in the middle of FMJ

Example: Speer #14 lists 124gr jacketed with Power Pistol with a min charge of 5.6g and max of 6.4g.
I load them with 6.0g and it's just about perfect IMHO.

Hope this helps.

Go here for some TG data

124 GR. BERB HBRN TP Hodgdon Titegroup .356" 1.150" 3.6 957 27,700 PSI 4.1 1057 32,700 PSI

130 GR. BERB RN Hodgdon Titegroup .356" 1.150" 3.5 895 27,400 PSI 3.9 1006 32,100 PSI

Those are the only two Berrys(also plated) that Hodgdon list, you didn't say what bullet you were using. For plated I usually take a middle ground between lead and FMJ for a given bullet weight.

Good advice so far.

TMJ'd bullets like your Extreme or Berries or Ranier are ELECTROPLATED just like Speer's Gold Dot and Federal's rifle ammo line called "Fusion."

The thickest plating on PISTOL BULLETS seems to be on Speer TMJs, but the Extremes are a close second (its fairly thick).

Titegroup is an excellent choice with these bullets.

I load 115gr xtremes with 4.5gr titegroup CCI 500's and OAL 0f 1.125 for round nose and 1.075 for hollow points.
keep in mind the berrys bullets are .356 and the xtremes are .355 like a true jacketed
I just wish I could find some more titegroup

I have been loading Extreme plated at 3.9 grains of TG for my 5" 9mm 1911 and M&P Pro. This has been a very reliable and reasonably accurate load.

For comparison, when I loaded Armscorp FMJ I was loading 4.1 grains of TG for nearly identical results.

I cannot recall my OAL at the moment.

NOTE: I do not think you mentioned the weight of the bullets?? My numbers are for 124/125 grain bullets with CCI SP primers.

All,
The bullets are 115 round nose. I was leaning toward 4 grains of powder to start.

I would guess 4.0 would get you around 1075fps or thereabouts.

That's a good place to start and work up from there.

I load 115 gr plated with 4.4 grs TiteGroup at 1.10 OAL for my CZ 85. A load I worked up to.

Berry's TMJ plated bullets:

FAQ: How fast can I shoot these bullets?
Velocities depend on the caliber, but as a rule of thumb, we recommend you don't shoot our plated bullets over 1250 feet-per-second. Our 44's actually shoot best around 1150 fps. 45's are generally good at 850-900 fps. Our bullets are not recommended for magnum velocities over 1250fps unless the bullet description denotes a thick plated bullet with a higher listed maximum for velocity
