I bought a miroku 1873 a few weeks back.  Trying to find good ammo for this type of gun was just too much trouble.  I had been wanting to reload for years, but never had much cause and this put it over the edge.  Bought a co-ax and all the rest.  Just finished my first set of 357 magnum with 4grs of Trailboss over a 158 hard cast rnfp.  Wanted to start slow. The only real drama was figuring out the jaws on the co-ax and that the instruction on the dies had a bit of an issue.  Told me to back out 1 turn for the roll crimp.  A few crushed cases later, turned out I needed to back out a whole lot more.  Mechanical advantage is not always your friend.

It was fun and I appreciate all the info on this site.

I have some hs-6, 2400, and lil'gun to play with for the 1873 until I move on to the 30-30 and beyond.

Thanks again!

Looks like you caught the sickness. Reloading is fun as hell but sneaky expensive.

From what I read, you should keep loads for the M 1873 on the light to medium side, due to the design of the action.

The mention of 2400 and Lil'Gun is why I bring this up.

I suggest you do some further research on suitable loads.

You don't save money, but you shoot a whole lot more and have a hoard or ability to reload when times are tight.
