This is a long shot, but thought this is the best place to ask.

Does anyone have chrono data for the following load:

25 grs H335, Hornady 55gr fmj-bt, CCI 400

25 grs H335, Hornady 55 gr fmj-bt, CCI 450 or #41

I'm loading a bucket full of these this weekend, have

both 400 and 450 primers, have always used 450

in 25 gr H335 load, was wondering what happens to

velocity if I use the CCI 400. I expect a decrease,

just can't guess how much.

Plinker/trainers loaded with range brass, so excuse the high ES. 16" DD CHF mid-gas barrel.

25 grains h335, range brass, processed on Dillon 1050 with RT1200 trimmer, CCI 400 primer, Hornady 55 grain FMJBTWC.

Sorry John I didn't test any for velocity but I did do a side by side comparison when working up my WC-844 load and found no significant difference in group size between CCI-400 and CCI-450. Impact was very close too but testing was done at 50yds so that may not mean much.

Hey guys, thanks for the info, much appreciated.

I've been trying to wrap my head around the pressure

difference between this load using CCI 400 vs. CCI 450.

Tech at CCI sent me some useful literature.  I know both are

safe in my 5.56 chamber. I'm guessing velocity isn't a whole

lot higher with the 450 but pressure is probably 10% higher.

I really need to get a chronograph.

I did that a build up on that load 3 weeks ago. My velocity was around 2700-2800fps.

Personally, I wouldn't go to 25g using a CCI 400 primer. I start seeing some flattening at 24.0g with 400's. The 450's show no signs of flattening up to 25+g of H335 in my testing. Watch the 400's closely. I use the same components, Hor 55g FMJ's and H335. Of course YMMV and all that.
