Does anyone have a recommendation on a chrono that would work without external power at an indoor range for testing pistol loads? I know some of the models available sell lighting units to aid in use at indoor ranges, but at my range I do not have access to power so everything would need to be battery operated. Also, the unit would need to be relatively shallow in depth, as the "bench" at the range I use is only about 8 inches front to back.

get the pro chrono digital with indoor screens.  get a car jump pack with  a  cig outlet and a 12v to 120volt converter.  plug in the plug from the screens to converter and converter to battery pack and you have portable power.

its how i have mine set up for indoor range.

I have one. It worked well in initial testing. Not sure there are any mounting
Options for auto pistols. It mounts directly on the gun.

Artificial illumination cannot be flickering, so no CFLs, AC powered LEDs.  The light must be incandescent or DC powered LED strings.  Frosted glass or plastic translucent covering insures an evenly distributed light field.

Shooting Chrony offered a DC / LED light string solution at one time, but I do not know what happened to it.

My old Oheler with AC incandescent lights works like a champ.  Don't know if they still sell the set up for the current 35P.

I have a CED M2.  I have IR Screens and an NiMH battery pack for it.  They also make an Indoor Lighting Set, but I don't think it would be needed with the IR screens.

I use incandescent night lights(about $1 each) ziptied to the screens on my Shooting Chrony. But as noted above you would need a power inverter to run on DC. I have a bunch of "white" bright LEDs that would probably work too which could be run by a  8 pack or two of AA batteries but I don't require AC free so I have not tried it.

The ProChrono works well for me at home and at the range.
The indoor lighting system is an add on, but works well for everything from arrows, to pellets, to highpower. It is a decent portable unit overall.

Also this one comes with an Infrared option, but I have not tried it.

The Oehlers we use in the labs work with artificial lighting that we rigged up, but that was a real budget for DoD work.
