This is going back to my wet primers.

In 13 rnds yesterday I had three dimple but fail to fire and two others that were delayed ignition. And the group size was larger than average, I'd say by about 40% larger.

So the primer power seems to be all over the place. Not good enough even for 100yd matches (just to get rid of the primers).  There are probably 500 or so primers to get rid of.

Hit them with a hammer!

Meh, I'd sok 'em in oil and disperse them in the trash.

Somebody will be along in a minute with a better idea.....

Throw them in the campfire.

Bury in the ground.  Pour water in the hole if necessary to make the dirt wet, or I'll bet sand in your AO.

The exciting remedy is to burn them up in a fire.  Not all at the same time.

Any kind of oil?

I have some gas/oil premix for two strokes that I no longer have lol

Jesus Christ!  Just throw them in the trash.

We're not dealing with an unexploded land mine here..  There's no need for ceremonies, lubricants, or burials.

Are you sure they are really bad?   I heard of a guy around here that had a basement flood, and had a few thousand primers that got submerged.   He took them out of the boxes and carefully dried them all out, and they worked fine later on.

They are made while wet and allowed to dry.

Are you sure yours have dried properly?

Yeah, it's even been several weeks.

the Winschester Small Pistol primers are so far just as they were when new.

I don't want to be 'that asswipe' who's pack of 500-600 primers went off in the incenerator.

Load em up in pistol brass, cram earplug into case, and shoot earplugs around the house?

Any chance you own a .177 caliber pellet rifle?

Shoot them in your air rifle for reactive pellets

Incinerator? Don't they use land fills in FL?

People put a lot worse things in the trash than primers, like Bic lighters. If you feel that concerned maybe you should just bury then in a shallow grave.

You could put them all in a plastic drink bottle and fill with water. Wait a few days to dispose of when the garbage truck comes. Wouldn't cause any problems by just trashing them or burying them.

No?

Why all the warnings not to contaminate them with oil from your hands by handling?

Edit:

I'll let you know in a few minutes, you've got me curious. I always considered that conventional wisdom that oil contaminated primers were dead. For years I have sprayed WD 40 into damaged cases to deaden the primers before tossing them into my brass bin. I'llbe very surprised to learn it ain't so.

So I'm donating ten to the name of science.

Five soaked in Krano Kroil, five in WD 40

I let them soak for approximately 30  minutes.

And loaded five at a time in some .41 mag cases that were prepped, handy since I can easily and safely run them through a revolver.

All ten fired.

You sir, are right, and I was wrong. Oil WILL NOT kill primers, at least not in 30 minutes. They were submerged, no way the oil didn't make it into the primer.

Any body wants to do a more definitive test and prove me wrong, be my guest. Maybe an overnight soak, or different oils, but the method I was using failed.

Oil will permanently deactivate primers. If you ever need to dispose of powder for any reason, use it as fertilizer.

The head ballastican at hornady  told us this during the hornady basic reloading class at camp Perry two weeks ago.

Fill a primed case with wd40 or 3:1 or whatever. Wait however long. Chamber and pull trigger.

My findings were wd40 and 3:1 did not kill primers. Perhaps your primers will act differently.

It can but don't count on it.

Primers in a camp fire is not all that exciteing.

It would be pretty hard to set them off in the trash and likely wouldn't be heard in a incinerator but I still wouldn't toss them

I recommend that you try this for yourself.

WD-40 is not reliable, I've tried it.  There might be something that does work, but I'm not going to experiment with expensive components.

Toss them in the yard, call a bunch of your buddies over, then pay the 13 year old down the street 20 bucks to mow the yard.  Sit back and see if anything funny happens.  Just make sure he has "ears and eyes " on.

I tried the slingshot method and I got nothin.

I sometimes give them to my son... he wads them up in paper and lights the paper in the fire pit out back.  Very low key firecracker effect.

I throw them in the garbage, but then again I am one that really doesn't believe in 'environmentalism' and if someone is sorting through my trash and it goes off it serves them right for going through my trash

They aren't going off... and the environmental impact isn't significant enough to reach the level of negligible.

So ridiculous that this is even a discussion.
