Does anyone have an awesome idea of sorting 45 acp small/large primrs?  I'm bug eyed and question myself sometimes.

If you have a large primer pocket reamer or cleaner you could use it as a go nogo gauge.

Yeah, throw away all the small primers so I don't pick up your cases at the range.  Wish they were all large

and if you get some that have some flat primers I have trouble with my glasses on.

I like the guys that leave it. I don't see the big deal sorting cases.

It is hard to go by head stamp anymore, but for the most part if its Blazer brass it is SP. There are a few others as well, which makes it a bit harder. Best bet is to deprime and use a large primer pocket reamer or similar tool as a GO/NO-GO gauge.

yeah I think I'm gonna change the way I do things. I'm not use to have such a large amount of brass to sort.

When a large primer doesn't fit, I know I missed one.

put you a case with a large and small primer out for comparison. helps calibrate the eyeball.

Get a one pound sledge at Home Depot.  When you find a piece of a.c.p. with a small primer pocket, beat it with the sledge.

There are a number of people dedicated to loading SPP .45 brass.  I've traded all sorts of things for the stuff I picked up...  Rifle brass,  .357mag,  and LPP .45...

They want it to consolidate primers.  No problem for me.  I want LPP, because I find more of it.

I recently started reloading for 45 and am thankful for every piece of SPP I find. I have a healthy stash of small primers and haven't been able to buy/find large primers anywhere. Just burned through the last of the large primers I managed to score so its SPP brass or factory ammo for me.

I have Blazer and Fed in SP.  For me the only one's that are a little difficult to tell are the Blazer with LARGE pockets, which visually look a little smaller than other LP brass, but are not.  Compare them side by side with a good pair of glasses you can tell.

It is easy to distinguish the Win, Fed, RP, PMC, S&B, GFL, IMI, CBC etc LP brass from the Fed and Blazer SP brass, not even close in size visually.

I didn't have a reamer handy, so I grabbed a drill bit that was larger than the small primer and smaller than the large primer. If the bit fits, it's a large primer. If it doesn't fit, it is a small primer. Low tech and free (if you have drill bits).

Note: Turn the bit around. No need to poke your brass with the sharp end.

I get thrown off by the size of the lettering.   Big letters with a large primer leaves zero room, then sometimes the lettering is really small and it makes the large primer look smaller.

I still save the small primer brass, I thought about only loading it up for matches where I can't pick up my brass afterwords

I know, I know...  first world problems and all that.

Save and sell... Eventually my pile of trade out brass gets pretty big. A few months ago I sold off thousands of once fired brass I didn't need, collected over 20 years... It pays to hoard brass!

Even before I started reloading I saved most everything I could.   Ended up with quite a "starter" kit

17 HMR brass, the case mouth of will fit in a large primer pocket but not a small.  Works if the case is primed or not.

I drop them in my case feeder. If the primer doesn't seat, it gets separated.

+1 for the 13/64 drill bit idea. I just did 2000 in a matter of minutes.

I keep all my small primer brass because you never know when small or large primers will not be around.

I have lots of primers but it has not been easy to keep my stash build up like it use to.
