Im not a glock guy but I pretty sure there are serious problems with the .40 and the unsupported chamber going kablooey.  I will be looking for more knowledgable inout.

Load and go like nobody business with the 9mm

40 S&W,,, stick with std loads and all should be well.. trying to "gas" them up in 40 and factory Glock barrel can be a problem if not carefull,, even I would stick with 165/180gr bullets, but my 40 loading is for Uzi and suppressor

As noted, NO LEAD in a factory Glock barrel

No lead is correct but I have been told that the Berry's plated has a sufficient amount of copper plating that runs fine in polygonal rifled barrels. As of today I have fired around 250 of the 124 gr Flat Point Berry's plated bullets and have had no problems.

ETA: Glock 19 - 9mm

Supposedly you can shoot lead if you are diligent about cleaning the barrel regularly, personally I wouldn't do it.  A lot of guys seem to shoot plated without issues.  Personally I shoot montana gold fmj's.  I think as someone else mentioned the 40 was problematic in the early years, maybe not so much now?  You should be fine on the 9mm, reload a 19 here without issue.

I didn't want to take a chance, and got a LW barrel that has been more accurate and just as reliable as the factory barrel in my G22 Gen-4.

As a matter of fact, the factory barrel was poorly fitted to the slide, and shot way far left, and high. I thought it was me, but as soon as I dropped in the LW barrel, it was right on the $. I use the LW barrel exclusively now, and the factory barrel sits in a drawer.

If you want to shoot lead, the conventional wisdom is to buy an aftermarket barrel (which I have done).

That said, I went through a long range session once having forgotten to swap the barrel and put several hundred lead rounds through my G21 with no issues.  Also, follow it up with a magazine full of jacketed rounds and cleaning will go much easier...

I've shot thousands of reloads through my G23 with zero problems and have shot lead through my 26 and 17.  If you to keep the barrel clean or find the right load so you don't get as much leading.  Plated rounds get a lot of fouling so keep that barrel clean.  I haven't loaded a FMJ in years.  But I will be getting a KKM barrel for my 17 SK j can shoot lead efficiently.

Well said^ but don't shoot jacketed rounds if you have ALOT of lead fouling.  BOOM!

Thanks for the replies.

Will be loading plated and FMJ.... It's what I have.

If I decide to go leaded, I'll get another barrel.

There, fixed it for ya.

So much misinformation in this thread........

Hundreds of lead rounds through my 26 without cleaning and still ZERO leading.

You can shoot lead in a Glock if you do your research and load accordingly.

It's just like tuning a motor. Give it what it wants, not what you think it wants.

Back in the mid 90s I bought a gen 2 g23 and reloaded and shot a lot of lead until it started double tapping on its own.

Sent it back to glock with a note saying only the above problem. They fixed it and wrote back to stop shooting reloads. Im sure they just  cleaned out the lead and tested it . Now I only load fmj and have about 900 lead projectiles left over that I could use but just have to scrub out the barrel each time.

Coming in late on this. Looks like everyone covered everything. If you are worried about the .40 unsupported bulging issue you should look at the Redding GR-X Die debulging die and the process. Gavin on Ultimate Reloader has covered this in one of his videos too. Jmho.

Hard lead works fine in a stock Glock barrel and plated bullets without any issues. Soft lead doesn't do well at all.  I've shot over 29,000rds of plated and moly coated bullets in my G22 alone without a single issue.  I also shoot plated bullets in my G20L, G21, G21L, G23, and G24.

Did you know that Speer Gold Dots are plated bullets?

I shoot soft pure lead in my Glock barrels without a problem.

Use a heavy bullet, good lube and keep the speed down so you don't have leading issues.

If you use pure soft lead and try to push a 115 gr 9mm bullet to 1,200 fps you are going to get leading issues.

The plating on a speer is NOTHING like that of a Berrys plated...

I shoot lead in my g19 no issues.....yet.  and shooting FMJ after lead doesn't do anything to help clean.
