I don't post here often, I usually just try to read and learn as much as I can. I've search 'til my eyes were blurry and didn't see any topic addressing this so I'll ask; and if I did miss a posting please don't flame the crap out of me just point me there....

I've reloaded rifle ammo, and am fairly competant at it. Recently someone gave me 1K Fiocchi shotshells that are already primed, and appear to have a roll crimp already in place. The donator had never loaded slugs before, so he had no idea how to load these, and therefore gave them to me thinking I was familiar. Neither wad nor slug will fit past the roll crimp without seriously deforming the mouth of the shell. I'm obviously missing a step here, no?

Is there a method to "un-crimp" a roll crimp? (I'm assuming a roll crimp is for slugs as I've only seen a roll crimp on a slug load, and never seen one on a shot shell loaded with pellets)  While I've been researching this I've  cast a couple hundred foster type slugs and bought several hundred wads, hoping I can stock up on some type of ammo that won't  send me to the poor house.   Thanks for the help!

What type of loader are you using?  I use a single stage lee load all. I think that's it. Anyway, it has "fingers" that go down the inside diameter of the shell that allows for insertion of fiberwads or sabot's over the powder charge.  I would assume that once you have your card in there you could put the slug in the same way. I have not loaded slug, only bird shot and #4 buck.

You can load certain slugs with a fold crimp. However, if those are the shells I think they are, the don't have any creases for a fold crimp. You'll have to get a tool that creates the creases to do a fold crimp...or you could just buy a roll crimper. They attach to an electric drill and work fine.

ETA: I went back and re-read. You said they were already roll crimped. You'll have to roll crimp them again. Doing otherwise will prove frustrating/futile in my experience.  I was thinking of the shells that come new with no crimp at all and are primed....some do come like that. Pictures would help.

This roll crimp you mention, is on the case mouth?

This tool may help, and this is a great site for all things shotshell.

Empty hulls with a roll crimp seem odd.  I think you'll have to pull the crimp out with a hook shaped tool, maybe a bent screwdriver, the use a crimp conditioner to smooth things out before recrimping.

I made a crimp conditioner similar to the tool in the link above from a piece of hardwood center drilled for a long screw that serves as a mandrel.  Works great on 28 gauge hulls.
