I have a 1K large rifle primers and all the loads I have call for standard primers. My question is can I safely use the magnum primers if I down load the charge? I am presently using 44.0 gr Varget, 168 gr a-max. Is there a percentage I should follow to use these primers - standard primers are impossible to find these day's and would like to use these if I can. Thanks

Yes, you can use the Mag primers, just start low and work back up.  Do NOT go below published Min charge with or without mag primers.

I have a issue of "Handloader" magazine with a .308 Win. accuracy test article in it and THE MOST accurate load tested was with CCI 250 magnum primers and Varget.

I would start at 42.0 and pressure test. I bet you end up right back at 44.0 when your done but don't skip the process. Better safe than have a face full of hot gases or worse.

Oh yeah. Don't forget to check back in with your results.
