I have been using a couple of Thumblers Model B high speed tumblers for years now with steel media and water. I have always in teh past used a fewdrops of Dawn and a half ounce od white vinegar added to the water.

Now I'm doing the same and the brass is getting clean inside and out but after 6 hours of tumbling it is very tarnished. Looks like I left it in a creek for a week. Whats changed??

I have the same tumbler modified with timer.

I tumble 4 hours, 2 pounds of 223 brass, 1 tablespoon of Dawn, 1 tablespoon of Lemishine, 1 gallon water, 5 pounds stainless media.

Perfect every time.

ETA......without knowing your whole formula it's hard to say.  You are tumbling much longer than need be, 3 to 4 hours, no more.  You don't have enough soap.

Cut up a lemon, and squeeze both halves into it.  Try again 8-).

Try a 45 ACP case full of Lemishine instead of vinegar.

That seems like a lot of vinegar to me.  I use more than a "few drops" of Dawn, too.

Have you changed the level of the water?  If you can see water when you've filled the drum, you're using too much.

I have been pleased with a small amount of Lemishine and Dawn.

But, I'd probably chalk it up to something in the cases that messed up the run.  Do 'em again.

OK

I went back to useing Simple Green instead of Dawn and my brass is now bright and clean and shinny again.  The Dawn was causing the problem for some reason. I even tried some Purple Cleaner from Walmart and it too cleaned them up better than new.
