What's the best goo to put in primer pockets to make snap caps?  I need to make about 4 different chamberings to hep some friends with firearms familiarization.

Silicon sealant?  Gasket goo?  Needs to remain compliant after it sets up, but be pretty durable as well.

No idea what is 'accepted' but I found out that the narrow, white erasers that get put in the back of some mechanical pencils is almost exactly the right diameter.  They don't last forever but seem to work for me.  I'm sure there are better ways but this is basically free.

Edit: Hit quote, not reply.

Doesn't hot glue set too hard?

There is a video on YouTube where a guy make bullets with hot glue and a mold.
All he has in the brass is a primer

I would expect it wouldn't be harder than a primer. I'd only be concerned about the durability.

Hot glue is holding up for me.  I don't dry fire a lot, less than 200x on mine, and work fine.  If they do dimple too much, just shoot another dab of glue on them.

I haven't had any fall out, either.  Used in several bolt guns and an AR-10.

I just fill the pocket and let a little bit bubble up on top, then shave it off with a razor blade, when its cooled.

OK, sounds like hot glue is working for several of you.  Good enough for me.

Any other suggestions before I heat up the glue gun?

One guy I shoot with makes his with black rtv. He dry fires a shit ton, and hasnt had a problem.  He loada his  snap caps in nickle cases so that he knows they are snap caps.

I use RTV also.  I use red, high temp rtv, because it is common to my trade and what I have on hand.  Takes about 24 hours to cure.

Where does one get RTV? Never heard of it.

you can find it at your local automotive parts store. It is silicone. RTV=room temperature vulcanizing

Do us all a favor and drill a hole crosswise through the snap cap cases.  Then, there is just absolutely no doubt they are inert.

I would say having a certain case color is not adequate to define a snap cap, as opposed to a functional cartridge.  A pair of holes in each case does.

Great suggestion on the crosswise holes.

Didn't have ready access to RTV,  but the wife has a hot glue gun.   That stuff sets in 2 mins!  Snap caps made.  Seem to perform well.  The glue seems compliant enough to do the job.
