I've done some searching & not found much on loading subsonic 223 rounds. Anyone have a load that works for them? I've been loading 223 for years but have my 1st can on the way in the next two months hopfully & I wanted to load some subsonic rounds for it.
So what powder, I currently use H335, do I need a different powder?
What grain of the powder should I start with?
What bullet, I like the Hornady 55 FMJ but have others, what works good for subsonic I would guess a heavy bullet?
As always thanks for all the help.

its going to be difficult, if not impossible to make a subsonic round that cycles the bolt.

i have heard that trailboss is a good powder for subsonic 223, but most people either single shot their ar's with it or use a bolt gun.

between 4.5 to 5.0 grains of trailboss should be a decent load. you really need a chronograph to properly work up a load.

I  have used the Hodgdon powder data for trailboss and it works but it does not cycle the action on an AR.

I use trail boss for 55 grain. I keep meaning to work up a load using some 75 grain projectiles.

Hodgdon says:

Bullet                        Powder                      COL        Charge          Velocity
55 GR. HDY FMJ IMR Trail Boss  2.200" 4.0             1074

Get a 300blk upper. Subsonic .223 is a waste.

There are people using Titegroup for subs.

I will try and contact them.

Yea the Hodgon site says TrailBoss, TiteGroup & Clays will work for Sub loads. I'll see what I can find & play with this.

Just get a 22upper. The power is pretty much the same.  And cheaper to shoot.  Unless you don't have any 22

Of what I have used in powders for sub sonic loads, I like trail boss the best as it is easy to see that you do not have a double charge in the case. Seems to burn clean enough.

Kind of false economy when you factor in the cost of the upper and cost & availability of .22 ammo...not to mention having to use different magazines. Plus, you loose the ability to instantly switch between subsonic and full power loads.

Its for close range 3 Gun....fast shots. No recoil for low times

I had the best luck with Clays.  The velocities were more consistent and accuracy better with Clays than with TrailBoss.   I loaded 55gr FMJ and 64gr SP.  I really liked the 64gr SP the best.   I had the loaded up to about 1020fps.

I also have a suppressor for my 22lr.   But when I’m out with my 5.56 AR/Suppressor i always have some SubSonic rounds with me.  They are just stupid quiet.

and because threads are worthless without pics
