I've loaded some mechanically pulled SS-109 green tips and while they're not 'match' grade bullet, they're fine for plinking.

Some pulls might need to be resized, but they still have lead in them and they'll 'round' out as they travel through your bore.

Green tipped bullets are "pulled" bullets. They paint the tip green, only after cartridge is completed. Wideners sells brand new ss109 bullets without the paint.

Up until sometime this weekend when they went out of stock Widener's were selling these in fact.

Every once in a while polygunbag.com would have new ss109s- haven't seen any since the panic set in.

It's important to note that one of the very last steps in manufacturing M855 is painting the bullet tips.  Only pulled bullets for reloading (and not all of them) have green paint on them.

I was looking for a source for the projectiles. If they are new and no green paing , no problem. even better because they dont look like the "evil green buletts" lol I checked weidners and they are out. Any on know who might have the projectiles only ?

do you need M855 62gr bullets with the steel penetrator? or would 62gr FMJs with lead core suffice?

2 choices:

Troll the reloading vendor sites hourly until you see some come in stock, then grab them quick!  Or...

Pay through the nose on the EE or gunbroker.

Wideners had bulk packs of them in stock for nearly 2 days the other week.  I got 2 ;-)

The place to ask this question is the tacked "Where to find component thread".

Otherwise threads that ask "where to find" get locked. We don't want the forum getting cluttered up with these constant questions.

I will leave this thread running for asking loading questions about 62 gr SS-109 bullets.

Welcome to the Reloading Forum, please do some reading at the top of the page. FAQ's, Tutorials, Links (links to vendors).

Getting ready to load some of these 109 bullets. I can't find data on them so I'm thinking

I'll try 21 grains of TAC for my 18" AR. Rem 7 1/2 primers.

Does anyone have a good load for these using TAC, or am I in the ballpark?

I loaded up 2 ammo cans worth @ 24grains.

Ramshot load data lists that bullet for both .223 and 5.56 Nato pressures.  (Look on page 9 of the PDF)

Start load is 22.5 max load is 25.0 for .223
5.56 start load is 23.6 and max is 26.2

EDIT:   I'd much rather shoot 55gr FMJ's or any match bullet vs SS109's.   The only thing that was good about them was they were cheap.   As others have said don't expect good accuracy with this bullet.
