I've been looking around for loading data and haven't come up with any solid information, just people saying what they do. Thats fine, but I'm wondering if anyone knows an online source that won't involve me having to buy another book. Also, multiple sources seem to say that weaker .308 Win loads work. Is this true? Looking to hear from someone that loads for this. FYI its going to be for a MAS36 bolt action, not a MAS49.

Hornady has load data for the 7.5 X 54mm MAS.  The test rifle used was a MAS M-36.  What weight bullet do you plan to use and what powders do you have?

Hornady 9 has data on pages 391-394.

There was also an old "Handloader" article on it.  Can't remember the year

You can make brass from 6.5X55 Swedish...I think

I've got a bunch of varget I was hoping to be able to use, but if I need something different so be it. For bullet weight I was thinking around 150gr, but I did read that the original were 139gr.

The old load I used from Handloader magazine was made for 6.5 x55mm swedish brass through a 7.5 French resizing die and trimmed to 54mm.I used a mild load of 41 grains of IMR4895.It worked fine.

I also used a 150 grain .308 FMJ bullet.

That was the Al Miller article?  Don't use that data for an MAS 49 series.  Some of those loads use waaaay too slow a powder and slams that bolt back really fast.

Now that you have given a powder and bullet weight, Hornady 9, page 393 lists, Varget and 150 gr bullet,

Start 37.6 grs for 2200 fps

Max listed 43.3 grs for 2500 fps

8 different bullets listed with various OAL's.

Haven't on for a few days. The Hornady 8th also lists loads for the 7.5 most likely the same as in the 9th. The 8th edition is a bargain now that the 9th came out.

Anyway, like dry flash posted there is Varget data.

I have used IMR-4895 and IMR-4064. I have shot a few 168's but my main loading is either a 150 soft point or 147 fmj.

BTW, I'm loading for the semi auto model 49-56. I have seen H-335 data too so my next testing will be with WC-844.

Thx. I should have given that info in the begining, my bad. I was hoping somebody would quote the book for me, just wasn't sure about asking someone to post possibly copyrighted info on the web. Didn't want to buy another book just for one cartridge either. But anyway, thanks again. Gives me a good starting place.
