I have seen some posts where Nu Finish is mentioned in media for cleaning brass. Is this referring to NuFinish car polish? Something like This? I have seen it recommended adding a cap full every 5-6 batches. I have been using the lymans corn green stuff. Just got into reloading. I am going to try out some crushed walnut lizard bedding when it arrives. Pretty good price on the 25qt bags of it at amazon, ~75 cents per quart. Actually the nufinish was suggested for the walnut, not sure if i saw it mentioned for the corn media.

Thanks for any input.

Yes, that's what they are referring to.

As for media, I use 40# boxes of corn cob media from an online media blasting (think sandblasting) supply house.  Works great, cheap too.

I can't personally speak to the NuFinish.  I'm a dillon rapid polish 290 guy myself.  I use a couple capfuls in new media, and then one cap every tumbling cycle in used media.  Works great, but at $10/bottle it's a touch pricey.

Also, put some cut up dryer sheets in your tumber.  Helps to keep the dust down.  Also helps to eliminate static from the media so it doesn't stick to your plastic media separator so badly.

Ok thanks. I will look into the larger boxes of sand blasting corn cob media also. The walnut is $19 for 25qts, seems alot better than the stuff from cabelas as far as price goes.

I did not think about the anti-static value of the dryer sheets. That stuff is a PITA when it is dumped out of the 5 gal bucket, goes everywhere.

Yup.  Dryer sheets will help to prevent that.

They will also prevent it from sticking to the lid of your tumbler (via static).

For anti-static, new ones work better than used ones, but can leave your reloading bench smelling "spring fresh" if you arent' careful which scent you choose.

I use NuFinish (about a cap full) & a dash of mineral spirits in lizard litter walnut shells from the pet store.  I turn on the tumbler for about 5 minutes without brass to get it all mixed up.

Love the result - much shinier than just walnut shells alone, and I think the mineral spirits helps cut the dust and - perhaps - prolongs the life of the media.  The NuFinish seems to protect the brass from tarnishing, without any residual coating that sticks / stays in the chamber (i.e. not like the laquer coated steel).

This is what I have been doing and it does work very well. I have used seveal different types thru the years corn cob walnut polish from Midway and Dillon but the last year or more have used lizard litter and Nufinish with a cap full of mineral spirits and have had great looking brass.

Me too, 50/50 mineral spirits and Nu Finish.  Add a dryer sheet to keep dust down.  Works great!

I put a few glugs of mineral spirits in my tumbler medium as well as the above, but my tumbler is a 5 gallon bucket inside a cut-down 55 gallon drum.

Thanks for the replies. I have been using this and it works great. I add my 50/50 mix about every 4-5 loads with one dryer sheet per load.

What's wrong with just using metal polish, like Dillon's or Frankford Arsenal's, or even Flitz's?

NuFinish=car polish, meaning 'paint'.

Case polish=metal polish=brass polish.

Are you guys so cheap that you can't afford the right tool for the job?

LOL, Chris

I don't like using Nu finish because it leaves a slick film on the brass. A metal polish wont do that. Granted it does make the cases shiny, or else this topic wouldn't be brought up so much, but I'll stick with a good metal polish.

Midway brass polish for me.

I didn't like the slick coating on my cases either with the car wax/Nu Finish.

Yeah, that's the only disatvantage I see to NuFinish.  I don't know how much it adds to breech face loading, but it's got to be at least a little bit more as the obturation would theoretically not allow as much of a friction fit of the case to the cylinder walls during the ignition and subsequent expansion of the brass when that slick NuFinish is invloved.

I still use it, though.

about half a cap full of NuFinish mixed with about two ounces of mineral spirits is what I add to my Lizard Litter to "energize" it each time I tumble if I'm looking for pretty brass.  I'f I'm just looking for a quick job on my brass, I spool up the tumbler with previously used Lizard Litter...just a couple hours to knock off the crud.

OP, when you add the NuFinish/mineral spirits blend, add it BEFORE putting the brass in.  Let it agitate, and mix it up a bit with a stirrer of some sort, and let the tumbler run a few minutes before adding brass.  If you dont, you risk the chance of getting clumped media in your cases.  I also use a sealed lid to help keep the mineral spirits from evaporating within the first half hour of tumbling.

The dryer sheet thing is the norm, also.
