I just bought some 148gr .311 Russian pulled bullets, and they are kinda dirty being surplus.  I was thinking of throwing them in the tumbler, and seeing if the walnut will clean them up.  How well do they tumble??  I'm thinking since they are heavy, they'll just sink to the bottom of the tumbler, and kinda vibrate, not sure if they'll clean up or not.

It will work fine.  I would recommend a pre-soak in acetone, then drain off the acetone and drop them into the vibrator.  This will cut any sealant off the bullets.

I tumbled a bunch of 147gn .308 pulls and they came out looking good. Two hours in the tumbler IIRC.

I don't have any acetone handy, I do have some naphtha (Coleman fuel)  That should work?  Just need some kinda solvent to take off any sealer right?

Go to the dollar store and get some cleaner called "L. A. Clean" or something along that line.
Its a concentrate, add about a gallon of boiling water into a bucket.
Drop the bullets in and stir. I let sit overnight and oven dry.

It will take off the sealant, and even strips green paint from M855's.

The naphtha seems to be working pretty good right now.  I think I'll leave them in there overnight, and take them out tomorrow, and polish....

Try a Lemishine soak for 1/2 hour.

Before. 2 bullets in center are the "control".

Same bullets 1/2 hour later, same "control" bullets.

45 ACP case full of Lemishine to 1 gallon of water. Rinse bullets in water after soak, dry on towel.

I'll second DF3's LemiShine recommendation.

Forget the harsher solvents, just soak in LS for 15-30 minutes and see what you see.

I had a big jar of old blackened 9mm JHPs and the 'Shine cleaned them up quite nicely.  Get it at the super market.  Run it through your dishwasher and coffee maker.  Everybody's happy.

Russian bullets may not react well with Lemishine.  Steel jackets and all.  Test with magnet.

Acetone will cut nitrocellulose sealant, naphtha won't  Naphtha will cut tar sealants but so does acetone.

Well, I left them in the Coleman fuel for about 4hrs last night, they looked pretty clean when I took them out, just dark and dull looking.  Let them dry, and I have them in the tumbler now with polish.  I'll see how shiny they get after a couple hrs.
