I should'a done this a long time ago!

(flyer was from another string)

Time to get crankin' and try a few serious accuracy bullets.

I'm only loading the Varmit Nightmare X-Tremes because I have a bunch of them.

good job, how hard was it to pull the trigger on the first one?

Not hard at all.

I'd measured and re-measured using my Rock Chucker, so I knew things were tucked and tight.

Strategic placement of the brass on the target could have hidden the flyer from the other sting.

Being involved in standards and evaluation as a profession, the cynic in me suggests that some shooters posting on forums use brass and coins to show scale very close to the group in fact may do so to hide a flyer and over inflate the perceived performance.

Kudos to you for leaving lots of space between the group and the brass.  The brass on the target adds interest to the composition of the photo and illustrates the cartridge use nicely, while not raising doubt about the actual group.  I wish more people would follow your lead.

Other wise, now that you've gone and done it and become a reloader, you'll just need to find a local 12 step group because it's an addiction.

Never, ever kid yourself that it's about saving money as you'll never save a dime - you'll just shoot a whole lot more for the same money.

Yea, those flyers just suck. Cold bore vs hot bore, pulled a shot, whatever. I've got respect for a guy who shows it like it happened. We had a fella while back bold enough to tape his flyers. Tape just glared the truth if it.

That's very respectable shooting at 100 yards working up new loads and working a new to you craft.

Kudos,

dc.

That's a pretty good start. I get 3414 f/s and .685" at 100 from my VTR-15 with a 50gr V-max. (rifle in avatar)

You should eventually get that Savage to shoot around 1/2" at 100 without too much problem.

Nothing like shooting your own.

Thanks

The wind had come up by noon, so I used the empty brass to hold the paper down.

That might explain how my 200yd sight-in moved to the right a bit by the time I moved the target to 100yds.

OR, and most likely, it's due to my total noob benchrest shooting skills.

Today was the second time I've ever shot from a bench.  (I called my friend, "Old Painless", and he directed me to his bench rest instruction pages on Boxotruth.com.)

Used my pistol rest for the front and a small bag for the rear.

I can tell you this....I'm back on the reloading bench tomorrow because I believe this gun and load can make one ragged hole at 100yds.

When I breathed correctly and pressed the trigger correctly, I was shooting bullseyes at 200 yds with no wind.

Can't wait to shoot again.

That is pretty good, but there is lots room for improvement. A verygood shooter and relaoder can probably get that grouping down to under 1". It takes practice, experience, and more reloads. You will get there.

Some Speer Match bullets might help a little, too.

But I'm going to keep reloading what I have in stock.

A good 30 power target scope with target dot reticle will make the job lots easier. I use a cheaper priced Tasco target scope like one mentioned. A light trigger works wonders also.

Anybody can reload, but can thay reload concentic accurate ammo. When I say concentric i also mean the case walls and neck. There are lots of tricks to shoot better.

Welcome to the reloader club.

Not a bad group.

Also, consider a little dry fire at that target before you live fire.

If your crosshair jumps when the trigger breaks, work on your position and trigger technique before you run ammo.
From the bench using a rested position, the crosshair should hold right on that X in your target.

200yds is more of a challenge with this setup

When I did things right, I was shooting bullseye center at 200.

That wasn't very often.
