I noticed on initial measurements some brass was 1.72 - 1.73 from some range pickups
Is this a concern? If not is there anything I need to account for or be wary of? |

Resize them and check for case length. They will probably grow a bit after being resized. Do they hold a bullet? I trim my LC to 1.73" and crimp. NO problem with neck tension. It's almost impossible to remove them with a bullet puller! The trim to length for .223 is 1.750" Why do you trim so short? |

I must be getting the range brass that the guy up top there trims to 1.73 lol. I'm sure that 1.73 is fine, but seems the standard is 1.75 and doesnt removing brass in essence just keep shortening your case life? |
| I have some federal brass factory once fired that measured 1.730. upon my research and asking questions here I decided to reload it and proceeded to load 1200 rounds with no problems. Neck tension is just as good as 1.750 brass. In reality .030 to .050 is not a lot of extra case material. |

Needing to trim is just a result of resizing. I have seen the SAAMI spec on here for .223 brass as being 1.760" +.00/-.030" Some members will not use brass that is under their personal limit. That is there choice. The fact is if you want to be a lazy guy you could trim your brass to the min and most likely reuse it a few times before it would "NEED" trimmed again that is it would be over 1.760" This is not a normal practice of course but seriously for the average guy shooting a open sight AR at a Zombie head 30 to 50 yards away it would not make a lick of difference. |

I'll be trimming mine every single time I load to the 1.750, below that nothing i can do but load it fire it and resize it to eventually bring it up to my specs. |

If you crimp, sorting them by length (the short ones) may not be a bad idea either. It depends on your crimp type too. |

Well...thinking on it....I think perhaps all those i can get to 1.75 will become 55gr FMJ w/c when they grow up however....those that are still small and not to spec, would probably be best served up in the 62gr SS109's and neck pressure fitted. Hopefully there are not many of these as I really want to load those up once I get accuracy down pat with my loading process, then move to those to find perfect powder drop for accuracy, load those up as SHTF rounds :-) |
