I'm looking into getting my own reloading equipment to help save money in the long run and also for something to do.
I'd be reloading .223 (or the closest thing to 5.56), 45auto, and .308win. I'm not looking at making any extreme match grade ammo, just good all round shooting rounds. Does anyone know offhand what equipment I will need and how much the start up cost is aprox? Like I said, not looking to make any fancy match grade ammo, just acceptable shooting ammo. Thanks! |

You have no idea how general of a question you just asked and how tired regular contributors to this page are of trying to help someone as green as you appear to be. No offense, I'm a newbie to all this too so I'm just trying to be straight with you.
Do yourself a favor and get yourself a copy of The ABC's of Reloading. Read it at least 2-3 times and then you will be in a much better position to ask questions and more importantly, understand the answers Let me straighten one thing out for you right away... . Quoted:

Yeah, you're trying to take the easy way out. If you want a shopping list, there are a few pretty good threads in here that have LONG lists. You need to learn some stuff before you are able to decide what you need. I could tell you everything I have, and tell you that I'm damn near $2000 into just equipment (not counting the actual stuff that you assemble and put into the gun). How would you know if I'm doing well or if I seriously overspent and am crazy? You wouldn't.
Read a book. Learn something. Come back in 2 months and ask some specific questions. Otherwise, if you want a shopping list, the search function is your friend. |

Read the "Read First" thread. This is what it says; If you are considering starting reloading, read everything at the top of this forum before asking your questions. That means everything, including the Resources. I also recommend reading the site Conduct Code carefully. You've already agreed to the terms when you enrolled in the site, so you might as well know what they contain to help keep from running afoul of the Code. There's a link on the right hand side of each page. Conduct Code All threads by new prospects with a question about starting reloading need to include a comment that your question is not answered in the material already available. If you're looking for components, used the tacked thread. Please use meaningful thread titles. The search function is completely useless with titles such as ".308", and they make scanning the pages for threads of interest more productive. Failing to follow these guidelines will cause your thread to either be locked or deleted without warning. We were unnecessarily buried by these same topics after The Kenyan was elected the last time, and I intend to get ahead of the problem this time. |
