Ok for you guys that reload for 5.56/223 I've got a questions.
I reload for all my rifles & usually fine the sweet spot with the bullet just off the lands. So with an AR I've always just loaded by rounds where they will just fit in a mag. To me that is as close to the lands as I can get without making my AR's single shots.

Are you guys doing the same thing?

You can make them so they fit in the magazine or you can make them shorter.  Unless you can figure out a secret way?

I crimp my loads at the bullet cannelure. Have not had troubles with OAL.

I run mine to fit mags or near states OAL, somewhere between 2.24 and 2.26 some of the varmint tip ones run a little on the long side so I double check em.

Load to magazine length unless you want to shoot bullets too long to seat that short.  High Power shooters do this during every 600 yard prone match, and I suppose there are other rifle matches where long range shots are made with these bullets, but that seems like a good way to complicate life in tactical matches.

A good bullet through a good barrel is more important than crippling yourself with a single shot.

I have yet to see an off the rack AR with a throat that is short enough to get anywhere close with a 69 to 77 grain bullet.  A 75 grain AMAX falls out of the case before touching in my Colt.

Depends on your AR rifle purpose.  Precision rifle AR work, then yes.  If you are talking about a tactical plinking/training rifle, no.  Load to the cannelure on the 55gr FMJBT and fire away.

Yes and it's possible to get .5 moa groups with proper loads and match bullets. I load to 2.250.
