ok i've read the faq's the tutorials and the other stuff and can't find the answer to a question i have. question is this
i'm looking to reload 9mm and 45 acp the lyman book says to use cci 300 and 500 primers. well i went to go buy some and everybody is out. however they had a lot of federal and winchester primers are they just as good and can i use them or should i stick with the cci and hope i can find some sometime soon

standard small and large pistols primers from Winchester, Federal, Remington, Wolf, Tula, etc will work with 9mm and 45ACP loads.  Just start 10% under the max load listed and make test loads with increasing powder charges

Read this thread I wrote on doing load development for 380 ACP and apply it to 9mm and 45ACP and you'll do fine.  A lot of noobs just pick the max powder load from their reloading data, crank out a bunch of rounds, then find it's too hot or something and come back asking what to do

Look in the primer section in the front of your reloading manual for the primer Chart.



Primer chart = what brand of primer is equal to another brand.



 



In Lyman 49 that would be page 56.
