Hey guys I've got a little frankford arsenal digital scale that I've been looking to upgrade (tired of changing batteries all the time).  I've been looking at the Hornady 1500 and the RCBS Rangemaster 750.  If anyone has any experience with either of these I would love to hear your likes and dislikes and if possible why on these two units.

I think I'd go with something that will connect to a digital trickler (RCBS Chargemaster and similar) in case you want to go that route in the future. Make sure the trickler is available on it's own, though.

I just got a new Frankford digital scale to replace the one that died (box of bullets fell on it when the wife slammed the garage door). This one's the 5 button version with the hinged clear plastic cover. That what you have? Does it seem consistent?

This is the one that I have http://www.midwayusa.com/product/175512/frankford-arsenal-ds-750-electronic-powder-scale-750-grain-capacity I found that it was a good little scale but if left on it would drift a little.  I suspect that it was do to changes in the amount of DC current available from the battery as it was drawn.  You can fix this by just turning it on when you need it, do your weighing then turn it off.

Do you have a good beam scale?

In my experience, even the good digitals can get a little fussy sometimes.  Cheap ones like the FA you have, I'd never even consider using for weighing powder.

I have one in its box some place.

I changed up to the Rangemaster 750 after about 3 months of using a inexpensive portable Arsenal scale. I like the RCBS much better and don't have any of the drifting issues that the Arensal had. It's a thumbs up for the price. Before I start loading I will turn the scale on about 20 minutes before I am ready to use it, verify adjust charge weights if I am working up a load and then verify every hundred rounds or so.

I just bought the Brian Enos HP digital scale Link. I took it out of the box and played around with it a little the other day. As for my first impressions, I was amazed. Its a cool scale. Much improved over my last scale.

I will try to do a write up next week.

I started with a RCBS 505, it sucked. Then I got a Hornady digital scale, it was good. Finally I got a RCBS Chargemaster Combo, and it is great.

The Chargemaster is all I use now.

The 505 scale is one of the better scales you can buy.  Exactly, what about it sucked?

First and foremost get a quality mechanical scale. The Dillon Eliminator is the best value and will last a life time.

Electronic scales are pretty much a crap shoot especially lower end ones.

The best like a Denver Instruments MXX123 or a variant is as good as it gets at a price.

PACT sucks when it comes to customer service.

Any Electronic Scales come with quirks ranging from warm up time, 60 cycle interference, and things the impact mechaanical scales from drafts etc.

I tried one of these scales, but found it to be in-accurate. It would start out okay, but as it was on the same powder charge would weigh one amount, but then a few minutes later it would weigh something different. It would re-zero at different amounts too using the same included plastic funnel/pan that is included with it (believe its an RCBS pan with funnel lip). Brian took it back with no problems. Before that I tried that Frankford arsenal POS scale-wow what a joke that was. So I'm back to my rcbs 505 beam scale until I can find a digital scale that actually works and is indeed 100% reliable. Maybe I got a bad one, but ymmv...

Had some time today so I loaded some .44 mag test rounds so I can see if my Super Blackhawk will survive 16 grains of Blue Dot. The Frankford scale did fine, as long as I picked up the pan and set it down again when I was trickling the last tenth grain. Never had it turn off when it was inconvenient, either.

That said, I still want a Chargemaster

It's more time consuming.

I'll gladly spend my time accurately with a 505 than with ANY electronic scale
