Hello,
I was given a huge selection of powder, a friends dad passed and he did not reload. So he called me and asked if i wanted it, He gave me 9 pounds of Winchester WSL, and 2 pounds of IMR 4227. I have used 4227 for the .357 mag. But I havent been able to foing data for the WSL. I think Winchester discontinued this powder. Does anyone know why they stopped using this powder and what can I load with it? Has anyone used this powder before and how does it perform? The container reads shotgun and pistol powder.
Thanks
Bob

WSL is a fast burning shotshell powder with some handgun applications. It is in the Titegroup/International Clays burn range. Some say Titegroup is WSL. Don't know about that.

What handgun rounds do you reload?

I should still have an old Winchester powder manual.  I can get you some data in a couple hours

WSL will have some usefulness for the handgun rounds, even though it went away ~1997, the year before Titegroup was introduced.

It is not a magnum power, so you will not get top velocities in the .44 Rem Mag.

Go to the foum on www.brianenos.com

Do a search (anyone can search) on WSL.  I believe there is an equivalent, but look around over there for info on this.

near as I can tell, this book is from 1995

from the manual
all loads are considered max and must be reduced by 10% to start

For 45 ACP I have used WSL in the past for lead 200gr SWC and 185gr JHP. I do remember it burned very clean

For a long time WSL was my go to powder for 45 ACP.  Loaded 5 grains under a 200 LWC.  Made major power factor in the old USPSA rules (175 major).  Metered great in my 550B and was very clean burning.

Lucky guy to have 9 lbs.  That will last you a long time.
