I bought a metric boatload of pulled 30-06 tracers way back when they were cheaper. The range I shoot at doesn't allow them.

Any ideas on how to de-tracerfy them without the risk of contaminating my powder?

I have seen people hold them in a fixture and hit them with a torch just long enough to light it off. Haven't done it myself though.

You might be better off trying to work out a trade deal with somebody for some FMJ's.  You could probably trade piece for piece with somebody if all you wanted is some plinking projectiles.

Shoot at a different range or shoot them on rainy days when no one is around!

Actually you have to use certain powders to light them off....so you might be ok with just not using those powders

Curious as to which those would be. Im looking to get a few thousand to load up for my scar and would be nice to have them separated into batches that light and do not.

you might try silicone caulk in the hollow base

I'm thinking that submerging them won do a thing because there is either a copper or plastic "cup" sealing the bottom, which need to burn before the tracer compound ignites. I'm assuming these are present so the tracers dont ignite in the barrel.

You are still going to get them to light, maybe not all of them though.

I'm not so sure of that....

I've made quite a few tracers,  and maybe only a couple of them did not ignite.  I do not use any "tracer" powder.

Ok so prelighting them might not be a good idea. I took a lighter and lit the end of a 5.56 one. Took a minute or two the a loud bang and bullet went one way and copper cap went the other.

Lets step away from the bad ideas, or this thread won't last much longer.

That was with pulled 5.56. I have seen .30 caliber ones just sit there and burn.
