It's in my Big 3 (Varget, IMR-4895) for 308 and 223 with the heavies.

You can have 'lot to lot' variations with any powder, but I think the knock on RL-15 is is it's a bit temp sensitive and perhaps 'dirty' for those who like to lick their muzzles after the barrel cools down.

There was a minor scandal a few years back with some RL-15 being labeled 'Made in the USA' and 'Made in Sweden', but I'm not sure that that wasn't just a labeling mistake.

Most were pissed with the 'Made in the USA' angle, FWIW, lol.

I'm in Miami, so cold weather isn't a problem and I don't stick my tongue into the muzzle, so that's not a problem, either.

It was dead consistent for a long time, then I got a lot that was very fast.

Before that lots of Reloder 19 and Reloder 22 were showing up with variation between every lot.

I haven't bought any in a while, so I don't know how it has been lately.

I have not seen an issue so far. Have not heard anything bad from the guys in the club either.

That's a fact and is why one should always work up one's loads anytime you change lots of powder unless the load is well under the max.  A few years ago I heard a lot of complaining about Varget varying considerably in burn rates between lots.   It does happen with all of them to varying degrees.

I use it exclusivly for my .308 loads. It seems a bit faster than the Varget loads that I used with the same charge. I do not have a chrono but based on drop and mil adjustment the rl15 is shooting app. 200 fps faster than the similar Varget load. I dont mind though. Consistency is good. I am on my 5th or 6th pound of it and havent noticed anything different from lot to lot. I dont do anything extra to my brass for precision like neck turning etc. and I am averaging my 300 yard groups after overr 75 groups at 1.75 inches. I havent shot any further so I have no long range data.

thanks bruce.

it is infact a faster burning powder than varget. hodgon,s website has a "burn rate" chart which list almost all powders from fastest to slowest burn rate.

Ive been using varget for 15 or so yrs and have always seen variation,s in burn rate from lot to lot, but not as much with re-15.
I was wondering if I wasnt the only one seeing this (for now)

Any powder can have lot to lot variation. (this is why they make the stuff in lots)  That being said, it's usually considered more consistent than Varget.

In my book, anything Alliant is G2G. I use it almost exclusively, Especially the newer Re-17.

I was seeing borderline pierced primers with 77gnSMK/Nosler @ 24gn RL-15, lot# CE 0519 this summer when temps got above 95-96F it seems. Switched to Varget and no more soot in the primer dents no matter what the temps. Had a few matches this summer where it got over 100F in the shade.

Didn't have any primer issues with my 80SMK @ 24.1gn RL-15 though. (less bearing surface with this bullet than the 77's) and they grouped tight elevation @600yds. with only a 1/4 to 1/2min or so change probably due more to light conditions than temps as I could't see any pattern with moderate temp differences.
