I'm moving this to Reloading because that's the kind of equipment you're asking about, but the posters above are right - just dropping a round into a gauge isn't going to tell you if it's a "good" reload.

Good grief don't buy gun show reloads.
I know of a good case gauge but I ain't tellin' if this is the purpose.
A good case gauge won't save you from a kaboom.

What if the dipwad dropped too much powder ?
What if he got pistol powder mixed up with his rifle powder ?

I like (and use) Dillon's case gauge.

Thanks.

Just a note to everyone else; the topic has been covered, so be nice.

I like Dillon case gauges because they are stainless - less rust problems.  I use Wilson gauges if Dillon doesn't make one in the caliber I want.

If you're suspicious enough of an ammo manufacturer that you feel the need to case gauge a sample of their product before you buy it, maybe you're better off buying something else.

Bought gun show reloads once many years ago.  Only once.

Lesson learned.  5 squibs in the first 200 rounds.  Got me some expensive fertilizer.

Factory or my own reloads, always.

My local funshop had a display with 100's of boxes of various calibers of pistol ammo priced about half of what I normally find. All of them were plain white boxes with a fancy stick on label on the top and end flap.

Didn't recognize the name of the company, red flag #1.

Picked up a box and heard the rounds rolling around inside, red flag #2.

Opened one and saw loose rounds inside, no tray, red flag #3.

Looked at the sales guy with a WTF look, he just shrugged his shoulders, red flag #4.

Obvious reloads from a local guy looking for some extra $$$. I put it back and left. Won't buy reloads from a funshow or a gunshop. Ya never know what you're gonna get.

I bought some .308 reloads at a gun show years ago, they flattened the primers and had flutes in the brass after firing. Never again.
