I recently finished off a 4 lb jug of Viht 320. My powder hopper is half full (Dillon Square Deal B). I've read (time and again) that you must keep it half full for a consistent charge. As you should never mix lots of powder, what is the best course of action? Dump the remaining old powder?

You can load it, just check your charges to make sure they stay correct

With WC844 my dillon measures throw consistant pretty much to the end, I'll slow down a bit and tap the measure to help at the last

Keep loading until powder is gone.

Keep an eye on the thrown charges, you will be fine.

Who said you should NEVER mix lots of powder? Do you work up a new load every time you buy a new pound of powder? I have noticed a difference in volume to weight once but that was with 2 lots that were made years apart from each other. I don't mix OLD (very old) with new but if I have let's say an ounce or less of something I will mix it into the new pound.
BTW: I have dispensed ball powder from my RCBS Uniflow right down to where there was not enough to make the next charge and it did fine. Of course I weighed every one.
