Anyone know what manufacturer the Midway Blemished bullets come from? My T3 loves them Hornady 180 SSTs. 17 bucks a box is got my trigger finger itching.

At the last "Funshow" I asked the a vendor about this subject, ( he routinely has "oddball" components.... Fed. EFMJ, Pulled Gold Dots Fed., Speer 62 and 64gr Fusion/GD .224 bullets ... etc... ) His answer was enlightening, Hornady sells all the blemished bullets in one large / expensive batch, while Speer and Fed. will sell them in small lots. So when Midway has a large variety of similiar manufacturer bullets it is probably Hornady. He gets phone calls from the manufacturers all the time, some bullets are blemished, some are pulls from damaged ammo ( water specifically ), some with the cannalure in the wrong spot... etc. He can only afford the smaller lots. The larger ones can run into the $100K worth of blemished bullets. ( According to him.)
He did say that Midway bought the recent Hornady batch....While this doesn't directly answer your question, it was interesting to hear his input. |

Keep in mind too that Hornady doesn't just use red tips (or green now because of the zombie bullets). I have gotten rejects from them directly that have blue, yellow, pink, brown, etc. They make bullets for other manufacturers as well.
I also totally believe the story about the large batches of rejects being sold for big money. |
| I bought a bunch of the 125 grain 308 interbonds and 150 grain 308 interbonds with cannelure that are usually only available in their custom ammunition line and they look pretty good. Much better than the 175 SMK pulls that I also got cheap and stacked. Similar blems have been good to me in the past (at least when ordered through midsouth), and I'm hopeful these will as well (especially since I have 4k of them). I'm shooting two ladders this weekend and will probably report next week. |

I've stuck my toe in the blemished waters a couple times, buying a few hundred at a time, just cautiously trying them out. So far everything's shot great.
Next time I see a deal that looks good, I'm just going to buy 1000s and be done with it. I'm still torqued about missing out on more of those 180 SST blems ... |
